What on earth has happened to Stoke?  They look stronger on paper this year after being a solid midtable operator last year.  I imagine they will turn a corner soon but got to be a point when potters fans worry that it isn't just a blip.

Starting shay given who moves as quick as I do at present can't help

I went to watch the game in person for the first time in yonks. I literally saw Given coming out of the tunnel and put a pretty sizeable bet for me on the Palace win at over evens such is how lowly i unfortunately think of him even though he is an Ireland legend. Thankfully internet coverage is alright at Selhurst Smiley

4 years ago he was past it imo at the euros.

He is also terrible at claiming crosses generally and think that is the really big issue with him and for keeping his defenders calm in front of him, that safety of a commanding keeper really improves the performance of the back line and runs through the team. From the BBC, "The Potters have won just one of the 12 league games the former Birmingham man (Butland) has missed... the 40-year-old (Given) has now conceded 26 times in his 10 Premier League appearances for the Potters." The keeper position is the most important on the field and its effecting the whole team and I think he was at fault for Palace's first today not coming to punch it, always generally rooted to his spot.

However, we sucker punched them with two set pieces early doors today which i think hides their true quality a little bit because you are always going to be dejected after that, and also Benteke is finally finding his rhythm as well as Townsend finally finding it as well and also McCarthur after fitness issues. So really today was the first time I looked at Palace and thought going forward we finally have some potency cooking. Benteke really showing up Wickham in terms of hold up play and headering capability and pace, and he looks like he is going to be our saviour linking up play going forward. Finally in the prem we have a man up to the challenge.

Defensively we are still shaky, which was evident in at least 3 clear cut chances they had.

I am going to be watching the full 90 of all Palace games going forward, so I will be contributing to thread much more regularly this season than i did last.

That's what we wanted to hear.

Welcome back, War Ant Peace.

Was looking at Watford's relegation odds after the man Utd victory to reassure myself of safety Smiley and was surprised to see Palace at 12-1 for the drop against Watford's 5-1.  Apart from Spurs away Palace have had a very gentle first 5 fixtures compared to Watford's set of fixtures for the same number of points.  I don't think Palace will go down but this price must be too big at this stage (or Watford too short).

Also West Ham must now be a sell on the spreads at 47.  3 points so far with a chaotic defence and getting used to a new home.   Concede 4 back to back against Watford and WBA.  And 16-1 to go down for that matter is value imo.

Fred and Tote have a priceboost on Crowley to ride a winner at Kempton today, 5/4 from 4/5, might be of interest to Fred?

Is this represented in the points over and under for the season for Watford? Sporting index is it? Could be a buying spot?

Yup a gentle first five for Palace buts it's definitely a wait for three games to see if we are the real deal going forward before committing to any season longs. Cabaye not even in the picture either is promising.

Just an early comment on Mandanda randomly to any ligue 1 enthusiasts, what was his distribution like generally? Seemed lax yesterday, but I'm not sure I've seen a keeper with quicker feet.

.

Palace rated 1.5 points above Watford at the moment.  Both a few points behind West Ham from memory.

I'll recommend a cheeky £10 on Northampton @ 10/1 against Man Utd in the League Cup on Wednesday, just for the lols.
http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/efl-cup/northampton-v-man-utd/winner
Northampton just lost their first game in 31 league matches at the weekend, albeit most of those were in League 2 last year.
Obviously United have lost their last 3 but the fact that it is a Wednesday game as opposed to a Tuesday game and with United playing the early match on Saturday against a decent again Leicester side, I don't think Mourinho can afford to play anything like a full strength side when we know Leicester won't on the Tuesday.
Obviously the media will go to town if United lose 4 in a row (particularly to Northampton) but I don't think Mourinho would be too bothered about not playing in the League Cup. Regardless of the Northampton result, if they lose to Leicester, the pressure will really rise. That's the priority.
Man United reserves are better players than the Northampton XI but they won't be match fit, won't be motivated and hey, we're getting 10/1.

Actually I think he might play him and then use that as an excuse not to play him on Saturday.

For the same reasons that I've covered over the last couple of days re Rangers I've backed Dobbie and Lyle ew at 18/1 and 12/1 with Beteveryday in tomorrow nights League Cup tie. QoS in good form, Dobbie on 6 league goals and Lyle on 5 , they've caused Rangers problems over the last couple of season and will relish this tie.
Fred can't get on but throwing it out there for those that can.

Lyle 29/10 & Dobbie 17/4 to score anytime on Vic. Local Queens fans raving about Dobbie, he's made a big difference to them. Most of them are Rangers fans as well but betting on Dobbie & or Lyle to score.

Recommend £20 on each anytime if Fred can still bet on Vic's.

I just can't see mourinho losing 3 on the bounce & wanting to make it 4 against Northampton. I can see United putting a better than expected team out and stopping the rot, avoiding a mini crisis
