not sure the Arsenal fans on here agree with this do they?

Henry Winter ‏@henrywinter

Goalkeeping position has been a problem for #afc since Lehmann. Wenger finally addresses flaw with Cech. Still need a commanding centre-back

cech-centreback-vidal certainly would sort out the spine of the team though, wouldn't it?

An issue at #afc in recent years has been the shortage of true leaders on and off the field. Cech brings more authority to the dressing-room

I'm pretty sure that all the Vidal stuff was a load of old fanny.

Cech is an ideal man for Woj to understudy.

Also fairly sure that with Gabriel and Chambers as back-up to Mert and Kos we are sorted as far as CB's are concerned.

I'd like to see us acquire a top class striker though.

I think that Gabriel might be that player you're describing, but It has occurred to me that Ron Vlaar might be a decent acquisition for the short term.

Andrew Mangan aka Arseblog hits the nail right on the head once again.

Superbly written. I remember that Liverpool game well and i'm gutted we never truly got to see what Abou Diaby was fully capable of. Can't even begin to imagine how the player himself must have felt all these years. Very sad story.

I wish him luck in his future endeavours, however, Ralph once again sounding just like my old man, who as soon as a player pulls on an Arsenal shirt, will never heard a word said against them, despite their obvious failings. Smiley

Nice in-depth piece on Gabriel Paulista here:

Galatasaray have signed striker Lukas Podolski from Arsenal on an initial three-year deal.

Another season, another Trophy.

They'll need to extend that Trophy Cabinet soon at this rate.

Arsenal training in the 1930's with Male, Hapgood, Drake, Kirchen, Swindin(mis-spelt as "Swindon" in the sub-titles) et al.

This is absolutely fantastic:

Great watch, that. I rarely watch 7 minute vids - ADS - but that was lovely.

Did you see the half time scoreboard? Every eye in the stadium would be glued to that at half time, as the scores were put up, ever so slowly, one by one. The "code" would be in the Programme.

At Griffin Park, we'd boo or cheer accordingly as the QPR & Fulham results came in. We particularly disliked QPR. I often used to go watch QPR at Loftus Road, with Terry Venables, Marsh & Co, but I never told anyone, as they'd be cross with me for being a traitor. They were hugely entertaining, especially as Brentford spent a long time managed by a guy named Jimmy Sirrell. Jimmy was a bit of a nit, most of our games under him were 0-0 or 1-0.  Think he ended up at Notts County.
