The Fall - sorry Mr Peel, but on this one you were wrong.  They're my best mate's absolute favourite band ever too, but I just never got it.

This is a great call.  The amount of time I have invested in trying to get The Fall because friends, who share my tastes in just about everything else, love them is frightening.

Did your mates try playing "Eat Yourself Fitter" over and over again too, and then look at you with a puzzled expression when you said "so what?"

I challenge anyone to make it the whole way through and then explain what's so good about it!

The Kaiser Chiefs and Franz Ferdinand. Absolute guff.

The Fall on the other hand are a great band. 34 years and still going strong.

FYP

By the way, your post doesn't surprise me in the slightest.  You and my mate appear to have very similar tastes.

Love Gedge, Hate E Smith (might get that put on a t-shirt just to annoy him!)

Agree with Kaiser Chiefs, what a waste, total crap, just rhyming words for the sake of it.

Lol.

I haven't seen The Fall for a few years, but it's always a bit of a lottery as to what sort of mood he would be in. If he doesn't fancy it there's always a chance he'll just walk off. All part of the charm i guess.

They predicted a riot though, people should've listened to them.

Fairly meh musically - but their gigs are surprisingly good fun.

Very much this, they're a proper live band and are very good at it, the relative simplicity of the songs means that the entire audience know all the words which creates a great atmosphere

I only saw the Kaiser Chiefs once, at a V festival just around the time their first album was released.  Found them pretty annoying, getting the crowd to chant their name etc.  I like some of their tunes though - easily listening kinda stuff.

Oasis. Annoying, whiney, undertalented/overhyped, derivative, boorish. How people can get into them is beyond me. Mind you I do like Blur a lot, but it's not just that.

To plagiarise Mock The Week - sounds like a wookie having a tricky shit.

Saying that Bob didn't mind a bit of plagiarism anyway.....

it's not the mid 90s anymore, you're allowed to like both blur and oasis. I do though I was on the blur side of the fence during the britpop wars, prefer oasis now though

I like Blur's music, I think they are genuinely talented, the songs are varied, inventive, and catchy, with often great lyrics. Probably because I find these things appealing, I find Oasis quite repugnant. Strum-a-strum-a-strum derivative guitar play, some guy who can't really sing just groaning his heart out, to what I find pretty boring  and contrived lyrics. I only took sides because I loved one and genuinely hated the other as bands, I know for some it can be a north/south or perceived class thing.

I don't even like mentioning the band that made this

with the band that made this

in the same sentence. It doesn't really help that I strongly dislike the brothers. But I think they were just writing crap songs that would sell to cash in on the Britpop thing. Whereas Blur, just oozing with talent, and with something to say, will stand the test of time.

Completely different view to this. Blur now quite dated, Oasis some tremendous songs that everyone will remember long after the Albarn has gone onto his fifteenth pop incarnation
