Another tick.

- Soft Brexit prevails. David Davis resigns in protest.

'We're already used to negotiating with Olly Robbins, so this resignation doesn't really affect the negotiations.' Ouch

A leadership contest looks more likely for the PM.

1) She has the numbers to win it.
2) But she can't pass a deal without rebels.

3) Question is does a contest bolster her authoirty or liberate rebels for final deal vote. Prob latter? Party split and no deal ergo more likely.

At Chequers, Theresa May blurred her red lines. But the EU will put huge pressure on her to cross them to get a deal

TND

"Hard to see how Theresa May's softer Brexit deal gets a Parliamentary majority now. DD and Baker will join at least a dozen or so Tory MPs, plus the Opposition, voting against it. Odds on no deal now a lot higher too."

An utterly withering resignation letter from ⁦David Davis⁩. Airs huge disagreements between them going back months, and trashes her entire negotiating strategy...

The Hard-Brexiteers now have a single, simple problem. They can resign. They can challenge May. They can even unseat May. But none of that changes the arithmetic in parliament. So their only option is to force a general election. Which Jeremy Corbyn will probably win.

Politics podcast

"Before the Brexiters challenge May they need a decent candidate and a workable policy on Brexit that sorts out Northern Ireland & will get through parliament. Do they have any of those things?"

Heard someone reference the marx quote on radio earlier.

"Those are my principles and if you don't like them..well, I have others"

All good fun
