I believe the Parliamentary vote on the suggested General Election is at 5pm today.

How do we think that will go, will Boris get it through or will he face another defeat?

And in either case, what happens then as to Brexit?

Flextension agreed!.....Big pressure on Jezza now?

Labour abstaining tonight, but no mention of tomorrow’s strategy. I think they might go for it.

I thought this was an interesting take

"One big reason for the Brexit paralysis with no end we're in: everyone still thinks they can get their way. No Dealers, soft Brexiteers, Norwayers, Canada Plusers, Remainers, 2nd Refers: nothing is yet ruled out. So no group has yet thrown their lot in with their 2nd preference."

CNN Weighs in

As we hurtle towards another Brexit deadline with no clear way out of the chaos, it's worth reflecting on how we got here.

Tl;dr, the UK has made a total hash of Brexit

The vote for an early GE is taking place right now.

Channel 504 BBC Parliament is covering it live.

Predict Labour cave in tomorrow.....they know it goes through with other opposition votes....so they need to save face. ”.Boris has agreed to our demands” etc.

The Commons backed the government's election motion by 299 to 70 - well short of the two-thirds majority needed under the Fixed-Term Parliament Act.

How is 299 to 70 well short of two thirds?

How is 299 to 70 well short of two thirds?

There are (about) 650 seats in the House of Commons, so they needed around 432 to get it through. It's not a regular vote where they only need a majority.

So in this case, the various Opposition parties abstaining are very powerful.

I think. Probably.

So abstaining counts?

Not really abstaining then is it?

In effect, yes and no, respectively.

Things are often seen clearest from a distance. Such as this from NRC Handelsblad, the Netherlands.
