Devil you do, devil you don’t.

I would expect any government to have some plan on worst case scenario. There are no big surprises in this for anyone with a bit of sense but it's still used in an attempt to have a go at the government.

I’m actually more worried that if it is the actual government document, who leaked it and are these pricks at the scum paying individuals to leak this info.

In fairness it's the government's actions (covid withstanding) that have led to having to prepare for these worst case scenarios in the first place.

we are well and truly screwed aren't we?

clueless prime minister, especially in these circumstances
Pandemic
rising consipracy theory culture on SM that means a sizeable minority won't listen to authority figures anyway
Recession and rising unemployment when furlough ends
about to break international law on withdrawal agreement
odds on no deal during that pandemic
severe risk of sectarian problems in NI to follow

shame the thread is quiet. perhaps its just too grim

The Government urgently needs to find a better way of communicating changes to COVID-19 rules.

We need to return to a daily briefing - but one led by experts, medics & scientists.

All rule changes should be announced there and explained with reference to the evidence.

Not sure I'd be holding a daily briefing. I don't think enough changes day to day and they'd quickly become repetitive leading to when there's a bigger announcement people not watching it.

Once a week might be a nice sweet spot.

And yes to all the things above. Be interesting to see how the Tories react to a lot of what is going on. Labour are almost level in most polls these days. In the same way as people saw Labour as being hijacked from the left by the Corbyn lot it seems to me the same thing has happened to the Tories.

We agree on something, the Tories definitely been hijacked by the authoritarian left.

very interesting

Assuming that HMG sticks with its apparent plan of scrapping parts of Withdrawal Agreement and doing without an EU-UK trade accord, I foresee 10 consequences - a short thread.

In more than 30 years as a diplomat I have not experienced such a fast, intentional and profound deterioration of a negotiation. If you believe in partnership between the UK and the EU like I do then don't accept it.

With the Brexit Trilemma back in the news - and with Boris Johnson furiously denying what he agreed to in the   Withdrawal Agreement & threatening to renege on it - I thought it time to update on here the Brexit Trilemma Venn diagram.

as true now as it was in 2016

It will be interesting how this ends up. Come January somehow, somewhere, there's going to have to be a border isn't there?
