Corbyn, May, Trump, Clinton..

I just can't believe that these are the cream of the crop from what are arguably two of the most advanced countries in the world.

Probably more of a selection bias of the types of people who go into politics/want to be leaders.

Of the four, May seems the most 'statesmanlike' IMO, if that's a thing.

Trump seems the most like a fat 8 year old on a sugar rush.

...

(((Dan Hodges))) ‏@DPJHodges

If Corbyn beats Owen Smith I don't see how May doesn't call an election next year. And that would be political armageddon for Labour.

Won't this need a lot of Labour MP's voting to approve it? Doesn't seem likely, does it?

it needs 66% of the house

Conservative   330
Labour   230
Scottish National Party   54
Democratic Unionist Party   8
Liberal Democrat   8
Independent   4
Sinn Fein   4
Plaid Cymru   3
Social Democratic & Labour Party   3
Ulster Unionist Party   2
Green Party   1
Speaker   1
UK Independence Party   1
Vacant   1
Total number of seats    650

0.66 x 650 = 429

330 con, whipped
54 snp (would vote for one? you'd think so)
8 lib dem, on record as wanting one

= 392

that's 38 short of 66% before we even add in any of the minor parties eg DUP and UUP informally whip with the conservatives

180 labour MPs of the 230 nominated owen smith

pretty achieveable i would say

boundary changes in 2018 make it more certain she'd win, but going before then if corbyn wins has to be a possibility

Corbyn, May, Trump, Clinton..

I just can't believe that these are the cream of the crop from what are arguably two of the most advanced countries in the world.

I did laugh about all this with a few americans whilst in the States.  Of the ones I spoke to, they were all pretty dismissive of both candidates.  Trump is a joke to them too, and Hillary is just viewed as completely untrustworthy.  As Tighty has said many times, it is the first election where both candidates have negative approval ratings.

Corbyn has just grasped the power of twitter/the internet much better than his rivals.  Back in the leadership campaign he had a direct link for people to join as registered voters in quite a few of his tweets etc.  As a result he got a huge proportion of the registered voters.  His side have done pretty much the same again, and the others have been slow to adapt.  He has pretty much won the original leadership election and probably the next by having the best strategy.  Unfortunately his side don't seem to have a strategy to even win over their own party's voters.

It was said that Ed Milliband also had the best strategy in the last leadership election, he supposedly spent much more time appealing to the Union vote, which at the time was 33%.

If the membership had 100% of the vote in 2010, history would be different.

I used to work for Mr G, really nice (quite shy) fella. I can tell you this is all the antics of a one Mr Warren Lush, ex of partypoker, who still works with Tony. He has a dream job of thinking up stupid things for a public figure to do, and then he goes and does it. Kind of like Jackass for poker and politics.

Poor old Angela started her campaign like this

And ended it like this

The standard BBC sound check, 'What did you have for breakfast?'

Nicholas Soames famously answered 'A cold grouse and half a bottle of claret'.

Just had the Red Arrows overhead for the last half-hour.

What a waste of government money.

First thing I'm abolishing when I become Prime Minister.
