journalists are furiously posting exerpcts as they read

Conservative manifesto will commit govt to deficit elimination by middle of the next decade.

Conservative manifesto re Scotland: "fair, legal & decisive [referendum] cannot take place until the Brexit process has played out"

will repeal fixed term parliaments act

"We believe in the good that government can do"

move away from free markets across a range of policies

it's centre-left of centre (to take the central ground they think has been vacated by labour/ several Milliband policies) with a slug of anti immigration right wing stuff (to get the kipper vote) from the first run through

i lied

one more

Ipsos-MORI

Con 49 (nc)
Lab 34 (+8)
LD 7 (-7)
Greens 3 (+2)
UKIP 2 (-2)

the poll referred to earlier

the labour manifesto bounce...

Not much use to them if it's coming from the Lib Dem vote though.

Lib Dems really missed a trick in this election. Was an enormous chance to gain increased middle ground/moderate left of centre voters.

Their policy on Brexit in particular has backfired - with 70-80% of electorate saying get on with Brexit no matter how they voted. Should have played on other issues more heavily.

Conservative manifesto re Brexit: "continue to believe no deal is better than a bad deal". A mandate for no deal...

Manifesto will propose extra charges for businesses who employ non-EU migrants and higher charges for migrants who use the NHS

A firm that employs a non EU migrant will have to pay £2k to do so, for example

Personally i find it a distateful policy but pretty sure the right wing will approve

i suppose practically its a counterpoint to the interventionist "red theresa" stuff elsewhere to throw the right wing a bone.

Yep. Can't vote for a party with a policy like this. Wrong on so many levels. I'm definitely pro controlling immigration but why then penalise those you've wanted to admit/ needed to attract. Seems utterly ridiculous or malicious even.

I'm voting for Jezza despite his Stalinist, thicko, malevolent cronies in the hope that they'll win and somehow a decent leader may emerge. I think we deserve the economic turmoil we were promised as the side dish to Brexit.

today was summed up by one Prof as

"Political capital is best spent how & when you choose, not how & when you must; better to spend a little early than too much, too late."

"This is a sound principle upon which to build a manifesto, if you have capital to spend. Early downpayments are costly but repay themselves."

a caller to the Jeremy vine show today said

he "will not vote for Jeremy Corbyn" because he hasn't cut back the overgrown tree in his front garden

pause

consider not putting this pun up

posts anyway

which if he loses by one vote would make it daylight shrubbery.

Buried in the tory manifesto is a really radical idea: new global rules for the internet, just like current financial rules

this was something else unexpected....

Is the government’s plan for voter ID an attack on Labour voters?
