In isolation that Farage poster was pretty distasteful.  It shows an enormous queue of Syrian refugees or similar, when most of this perceived excess immigration is from Eastern Europe.  It is clearly targeted at people's underlying racism.

I totally agree on that.

I have no issue with migrants as I have said on numerous occasions.  I do believe immigration at current levels is a problem that needs dealt with but it needs a sensible approach and a degree of compassion. There should be absolutely no question in my mind that those fleeing war and persecution should be allowed in without having to jump through hoops, but people coming here with absolutely no intention of working needs looked at.

This Jo Cox think makes no sense to me.  I'm sure there will be a perfectly believable conspiracy around it in due course.

I searched #jocox on twitter just after I heard of the attack and somebody was already suggesting that "they" had killed her to swing the referendum.   Inside the heads of people like that must be a weird place.

Assuming you don't mean independently-wealthy people who choose to come and live here (but don't need to work), the loophole of people coming here especially to claim benefits is being closed so migrants will have to have lived here for four years before they can claim benefits.

What about the people who were born here and use public services without contributing? Can we deport them?

How do we define paying for public services?  Income tax and NI payments?  Should i be deported then as i don't pay any of these either and i don't have a job?

Now it's just silly season nobody is mentioning deporting people although anyone who's not contributing their fair share should do some sort of community payback.

RIP Jo Cox.

Rarely has a piece of news affected as much as this.

So very angry and extremely sad all at the same time.

What sort of society are we becoming?

I was, of course, being facetious.

Obviously people without jobs should have to work for their JSA, and as for the disabled, well, I'm sure there's something they could do as payback.

I think this event affected so many of us. I have some loose links to Oxfam, and the shock, horror and grief there is very moving.

What sort of society? Still the sort that sees incidents like this as shocking and horrific thank God.

Thankfully, this. The vast majority of the country has been appalled by this and it was kinda nice to see the likes of Cameron and Corbyn stand together on this. Hopefully it will make all of us remember that politicians are people too, most of whom go into the profession with good intentions.

Shame on the small but vocal few from all sides of the political spectrum (politicians and media alike) who have used this to politicise her death.

please note

Mair has been charged. Contempt laws now apply, to guarantee trial, making speculation unwise.

Can report what happens in court + that's it

Someone was notching about remainers making political capital out of this, but it has all seemed very restrained to me.  I haven't been aware of much campaigning from the main protagonists on either side.

Unfortunately it hasn't stopped the bile coming from Britain first.  I thought I'd see what they were saying .  You'd think they'd have a few hours of quiet reflection, but nope.
