Here is Bloomberg’s summary of the Bank of England modelling on a no-deal brexit

Quite a moment. I am putting this posts up as a matter of record, rather than giving opinions, as its momentous stuff and the thread is now a four year record of something quite unprecedented with the "final" solutions still tocome

Danish PM Rasmussen on Brexit:

'We need to learn from this choice. For 40 years people of Britain were told how European cooperation was holding them back. In fact Brexit has revealed how European cooperation was solving problems the Brits now have to deal with on their own.'

not a take a Brexiteer will agree with, clearly

Brexit: UK economy not ready for no deal, Mark Carney says

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46377765

which is self-evident, the planning process for that started way too late

BBC and ITV competing to host the Brexit May/Corbyn "vote on the deal" debate next Sunday

There is no point to this debate, on these terms, with these two people?

At a bare minimum it requires one Brexit-supporting opponent of the deal and one fully-fledged Remainer.

Boris or Rees-Mogg say?

Chukka or Cable or Sturgeon say?

what does Corbyn v May,both arguing two sides of the same view do for us?

an interesting one

"Do you have a favourable or unfavourable opinion of people flying or displaying the English flag at their home?"

% Favourable

Leavers 75%
Remainers 40%

The majority of Remainers have an unfavourable opinion of people flying our own flag?

Why doesn't that surprise me.

much like the Emily Thornberry saga a few years ago (criticism of white van men flying the flag) which caused a big debate for a few weeks

to some its an act of patriotism (for some, they overstep and less savoury elements wrap themselves in all the xenophobic stuff)and to some its jingoistic claptrap

magnified at royal weddings, world cups etc etc

Yah but I suspect if you asked the same control group if they had an unfavourable opinion of say French people flying the French flag the result wouldn't be mirrored.

This weird lack of support for our country is a big reason why the last 2yrs have been so complicated imo.

What's more I suspect if you asked French people how many object to the flying of the tricolour it would be almost nobody.

When disjointed attempt to negotiate with united it's an unerring task imo.

Especially when disjointed is shouting from the roof tops on a daily basis.

in the same way that the far right misappropriates the flag and mistakes patriotism for xenophobia or racism here (and why therefore overt displays of patriotism can get a bad name) the same happens in France with their national front, the Le Pen dynasty being the lightning rod for it

you'd see exactly the same in polling over there i reckon, merely the majority of part of the french population (i guess) who might wave the flag do support the EU, shared sovereignty etc

it would be in Italy (higher debt, more mixed feelings towards the EU) where the comparison would be more germane

That wasn't the original question.

Outrageous that she is refusing to publish the legal advice on her deal.  What is May trying to hide?

No 10 has refused to publish the full legal advice on her Brexit deal

Quote
Downing Street has refused to commit to publishing the full legal advice given on the Brexit deal despite a unanimous resolution by the House of Commons

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/nov/27/fresh-row-looms-as-no-10-refuses-to-publish-full-brexit-legal-advice

Surely this is a matter of such great national importance that the full text of the legal advice should be published.

There is speculation that the legal advice includes the fact that once we have signed up to the backstop, nothing could be done to remove it at any time in the future.

I  think there is something in there that would show that, under close scrutiny, the detriment to the country would be huge if this deal is signed.

Fair point.  Mantis loves to build his straw men.

It is some of the people, not the flag itself.   A bit like supporting the England team without liking all their fans.

People have a different view of the Union Jack than the England flag.  It is viewed more positively than the England flag, so I don't think the tricolour is a good comparator either.

Correct. I’m proposing a new one.

In fact I’m proposing an even newer one. Substitute French for American.
