Boris is in Switzerland today. Paid speaking engagement

He has set out his Brexit stance.

V significant:

“A new leader will have the opportunity to do things differently and have the momentum of a new administration. We will leave the EU on October 31 deal or no deal. The way to get a good deal is to prepare for a no deal"

So TL/DR: Prime Minister Johnson would go back to Brussels to renegotiate the deal (and remove the controversial Irish border backstop). And if he fails, full steam ahead for no-deal in October.

However.

The Single Market is the crown jewel of the EU.  If EU concedes on the 4 Freedoms doctrine, then it may as well disband.  So it looks like hard Brexit.

But.

Parliament has repeatedly said it won't permit that to happen, so no change here.

So.

We'll still be in the EU on 1st November as Boris will have asked for yet another extension.

I struggle to get alternatives to this

This might well be the key bit. Can the EU do it and save face?

What sort of Prime Minister would we need to achieve that? One crazy enough to let the grenade explode or do we need someone with a bright idea?

It’s difficult to think of a time when both the Tories and Labour have been held in lower esteem by the general public, which ever side of remain/leave they support.

The level of self interest being displayed in both parties is horrific. May and Corbyn have never been leaders and never will be.

And there is no realistic alternative to either main party.

You have to wonder what is in store for the future of the country.

Have you been living under a rock, Adz? You don’t have to be a genius to know this. No deal will be blocked at every opportunity.

What’s this? BigArz concedes that he doesn’t actually have an argument to set against Tighty’s fact-based approach?

Some twats on here that contribute very little and never stick their head up unless they can make a cheap jibe to make themselves look good or try and fit it.

Well played , well played.

If I recall I had posed a point that his wonderfulness hadn't answered, about the current state of travel freedoms, and how a stronger negotiator would have been able to push that button, using the previous troubles as leverage to maintain a status quo.

Let us not forget it was he who flounced off for several months when his previous arguments were being disassembled on this thread previously, despite the usual sheep like support from so many who blindly worship at his temple of  high brow clippings and long words.

I "flounced off" because my daughter had a cancer operation and it took up all of my time and attention

Absolutely nothing to do with this thread

I knew something was wrong Rich but I didn't know it was this.

It's a terrible situation to be in, we've been there and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I hope things are going OK.

Indeed.

Sincerest apologies for my original post. I was also unaware of this.

this is very good. A 15 minute watch

"For the last 6 weeks I've followed the Brexit party, from its very first rally to its last. The Tory party might be about to transform. If so, it started with the rise of this new force: an assault on British political life. My special report."

"Given the next Prime Minister needs to have a stable majority in the Commons, the candidate with the most support of non-Tory MPs should be the favourite.

Wise candidates will realise this"

over/under on how many do?
