Seems like Real Madrid have sent Manure up the garden path leading them along, stringing it out so they get the keeper out of contract next summer for free knowing no club will think they have a chance to sign him with their interest.  Another massive negative to Woodward's savvy and ability to run the club.

De Gea must be over the moon as all the bad press is on the clubs and he can collect the £12m golden hello next summer when he signs on a free and walks away from Manchester with a huge pot of gold to go back home to live with his stunning missus who clearly doesn't want to leave Spain.  What a coup for the Spanish v Manchester.

Redknapp just made a great point about Spurs acting like a big four club but spending like a mid table club with their transfer tactics under Levy.  I think they really are miles behind the big 5 now and in real danger this season of being swamped by a number of the solid mid table sides if they are not careful.

SPIN agree with you.

Tottenham points are pitched at 54-55.5 which seems absurdly low.

Anyone know what they were before a ball was kicked this season?

61 -62.5

They really are now miles off the pace.  They can't be considered part of a 'big 6' now surely?  Take the badge off and they are no bigger than Soton/Swansea/Everton etc with numerous others spending big cash on their tail.

The new TV money, which is pretty much equally shared, really hurts teams like Spurs who can't get Champs league money on top and makes the rest of the league a much more level playing field than it has ever been.  Being in the Europa league just hinders Spurs even more.  There is little financial gain and it doesn't really help attract players plus it puts a huge strain on their squad.  The average money grabbing foreigner coming to the EPL for money would surely rather sign for a team without Europa league commitments than one with them?  Do you really need all the hassle of the extra travelling and games if you are getting paid the same money?

Just look at Everton's first 11 and compare it to Spurs.  I know which one i would prefer.  I think Levy is Spur's biggest problem tbh and has been a main reason why they are no longer anywhere near the top 4 anymore.

Sad but true.

The last time Real came calling SAF persuaded Ronaldo to give us one more season, and what a season he gave us. Shame that de Gea can't be similarly persuaded, but it seems that LVG lacks the ability to manage players.

Joe Lewis is no mug.

If Levy is to blame, he would have got the tin tack by now.

I wish SAF was still in charge.
I wish Edward Woodward would go back to being The Equalizer.
I think we treated Moyes badly, but I also think he messed up when he arrived by changing way too much of the backroom operations.

I don't know what to think right now though. I would hate to see us have to install a revolving door on the Manager's office but LVG has some serious work to do if we are to hang on to a Top 4 place.

My view on Levy is he thrives on this image of being the hardest bargainer in the game.  He loves it.  I don't think it helps Spurs recruit the type of talent they need (most of whom will be using spurs like Bale did as a stepping stone) because these types of players know how hard it will be for them to escape from Spurs because of his relentless haggling so they just choose to not join spurs and go elsewhere.

There is no doubt he is a shrewd operator financially.  As an owner of a club he ticks a lot of the boxes for you running a tight ship.  There is no doubt about that.

As to firing Levy not sure it would be that simple because Levy has a substantial % of the shares i think alongside Lewis.  Lewis is obviously the majority shareholder but i don't think it would be that simple.

A new man needs his own team behind him.

Otherwise as soon as there's a little rocky period, everyone will be whispering beind the new man's back "that's not the way the old gaffer did things, we would be through this by now under him". Can't operate like that.

The only way to keep the same backroom staff would have been to promote from within like Liverpool in the 70s and 80s did.

Yeah, I guess so. But in corporate terms it felt like a top floor putsch to facilitate a major shift in the philosophy of the business.

Fergie was a genius. Not just as our manager but his timing in leaving was perfect.

I think it's actually quite tough for LVG to balance the books and expectation. I think United ARE making progress altho it is somewhat unexciting in playing style/transfer policy.

I deffo think now the window has shut and we have De Gea he should play him

DM source is dubious but if it is true it backs up my view of Levy destroying Spurs as a 'big club'.  VWP to WBA for standing up to him and his wide boy tactics.  If you have to pay £25m over 5 years for a player who is your number 1 target over the summer and you risk losing him over these kind of terms then Spurs really are a mid table club.  If they offer the £25m up front they probably get their man.

Can't even begin to understand why this is a conversation. Let's mull over who has more financial nous...

Levy > Arry

He takes an awful lot of stick, but we have a new stadium to pay for and we wasted £80m two years ago. Levy has run the club on paying wages outside the top four and offering a succession of managers access to whoever they wanted. Levy won't pay more than he thinks people are worth and doesn't get ridden over often. Baldini and Comolli are the ones spurs fans generally believe have caused us the trouble in the windows.

Poch has spent the summer getting rid of the trouble makers (with one exception who wanted £5m to go) and sending younger lads to places they can develop. The squad will be a much better place to be than it was last year, by all accounts. Poch wants youth with potential so it's down to him now.  He will get two seasons before spurs decide whether he takes us next door to the Whatever Stadium.

We simply can't compete with the top 3 and don't have Arsène Wenger as our manager. Fighting for fifth and a run in the cups is our season. £25m chasing a petulant child won't achieve anything but disrupt the squad and leave us spending more to end up in the second position.

Hope I'm wrong and we can have another CL run. That was great fun.

Loved that grave accent in Arsene, wish I knew how do that.

My old keyboard only offers me an acute behind the alt key.

Hold down Alt and type these numbers:

129 = ü
145 = æ

Plus lots of others
