One of the great sports commentators for me. Back in the golden days of F1. Made me a bit sad this one, but 97, fair play.

Just reading his obituary - amazed to learn he was an advertising exec till he was in his mid-fifties, only went full time with the commentary after James Hunt’s 1976 F1 victory built an audience for it.

That's got to be the definition of having a great life.  At retirement age you find your true passion and smash it and young people think that's all you ever did.   Bit like Tikay signing for skypoker back in the day.

Marvin Hagler.

Shocked and saddened. Hagler was only around my age.

He was in his pomp at a time when there was so many truly great middleweights, Leonard, Duran, Hearns...

I've said it before but the only appropriate word I can think of to discribe the boxers of this division in his era is gladiators

Marvellous Marvin, RIP.

R.I.P Marvin. Remember him schooling Britains golden boy Alan Minter, and those fights with Tommy Hearns , beast of a fighter.
