I read this yesterday, it is very good.  It is a bit like Mike Sexton, our paths haven't really crossed, but both seem like they were well liked in the community.  I wish I'd known more about Mike Sexton when he was alive, he did briefly sit at the other end of my table at the WSOP one time, but he was gone before I spoke to him.

RIP both of them

Walter Becker, 50% of Steely Dan.

Do It Again was the first track of theirs that permeated my largely rock consciousness, but it was Aja that I bought and loved. For me, it was a major discovery of new, cool, sophisticated sounds that could be described as jazz-influenced. I then started buying up their back catalogue and found some fantastic gems. Still listen to them now.

RIP Mr Becker, only 67 years old

Just discovered this:

Former Aussie Test cricketer, Dean Jones, has died of an apparent heart attack at 59.

He was one of a number of international players who played for my local village cricket team, Nostell CC, in the early 90s.  I presume the underlying reason was for a work-permit, or similar, but it used to make for some interesting scores in the local paper, the Hemsworth & South Elmsall Express, each week.

My memory is hazy, but I seem to remember him often having really good bowling figures, alongside the expected huge batting scores, when playing against local village sides.  It must have been a bizarre experience for all concerned, a bit like having a big-name player turn up on your poker table in a tournament.

Alan Smurfit died a couple of weeks ago.

Only found out because of this race title https://www.sportinglife.com/racing/racecards/2020-09-26/curragh/racecard/590379/alan-smurfit-memorial-beresford-stakes-group-2

Solid contender for the worst player to ever win a bracelet, but no doubt he absolutely loved the game. Used his bracelet as a card protector which I always found kinda funny. The opposite of flying under the radar.

RIP

Bobby Ball dies aged 76, COVID-related.

Loved watching Cannon & Ball as a kid.
