Mr Loaf has passed away. I'm struggling to think of any pop/rock star who gave me so much musical & visual pleasure & enjoyment for such a large part of my life. Outrageous. Funny. Fat. Wonderful. BOOH was first released 45 years ago & is still selling to this day. | Click to see full-size image. |

I've seen all the Meat Loaf & Jim Steinman documentaries - 5 or 6 of them - & it always amused me that his close friends & band members called him "Meat". To strangers, he was Mr Loaf I suppose.

Wonderfully memories from the 80's....... many times Meatloaf blaring out whilst driving through the night from Barnstable to Broadstairs to see the lovesick girlfriend for a day or two.

How serendipitous that a man who wrote songs like those should meet a man who could sing them. Extraordinary, wasn't it? Both the writing & the performances were one-offs. Nobody wrote like Jim, nobody sung like Mr Loaf. They were made for each other, although in personal terms they had a very rocky on-off relationships, & often went their own way for years at a time. One died at 73, the other at 74, so maybe they will re-unite Upstairs. |
