Nothing official, but a good thread on travel here.

https://twitter.com/EvilDoctorK/status/1396798790145912834

Asked by a chap I know about the US, and he said that he thinks US will go green as soon as they open to us.

https://twitter.com/PeterSGreenberg

This guy very knowledgeable about US travel. Usually does a podcast/video on facebook

Nice one, thanks.

Will give him a follow.

I've just moved my flight to July 1st, but only because that's the first flight.

Think we'll know more in a few weeks once this G7 has been done and they actually get around a table.

No probs, him and Donal seem to be the most sensible. Paul Charles should be on the pier with his crystal ball..lol
We were due to go to USA today, cancelled a few weeks ago and currently re-booked for start of July

In fairness, I think he probably has good sources, but this situation means they're as much use as a chocolate teapot.

I'm booked to go the 1st, I'll go on the 8th if that's a possible, and it means I still see Bruno Mars & UFC.

Anything other than that, I'll go for Xmas, as I've got Dec 5th - Jan 5th booked up for ~$1200 at various hotels.

Matt Hancock is getting a right pasting.  Should have been sacked 15-20 times.  Rosie Cooper looked shocked she had got that out of him.

Was planning to go out for a bike ride.  Going to have to go soon, or lunch will be late.

Did you see the bit where he was discusisng the priorities on 12 March(?) .  The choice was bombing the Middle East, Covid or some story about the Prime Minister's girlfriend's dog...

Paraphrasing obv. but wow.

Wow indeed.

Bike ride? Are you a bike rider?

I'm big into biking. Nothing fancy of course, just an old mountain bike with heavy tires but it's all exercise.

I do 30 mins flat out 3 or 4 mornings a week and a more leisurely 20 miles or so on a Sunday morning pre lunch.

I am very tempted to treat myself to a Brooks B67 though.

I try to get out and exercise 3 times a week.  So it will be a run or a cycle.  Cycling, I tend to do 10 miles or so each time on a hybrid bike, sometimes tarmac, sometimes trails.  I have gone 20 miles before, but not for some time.  I definitely don't go flat out, takes me nearly an hour to do 10 miles.   My tires are at the wide end of what the bike can take, as it has been so muddy and the bike was so slippy on the previous ones.

Going to go now.

10mph is a good pace.

My Sunday ride can take like, 2 1/2 hours but I do stop to gawp at things.

It is Wednesday so a mortality update

https://twitter.com/john_actuary/status/1397227283266539520

For a change, something from me that's a little more relaxing than Indian variants or excess deaths... the lake next to me has some new arrivals.

9 seems a very healthy brood for cygnets.  I saw one of the local broods when out on my cycle and there were only 3.   Hope this gets updated regularly, but am reliant on 3rd party data.  Mallard mortality is shocking and I don't want to go anywhere near coot mortality.  The local ospreys are down to 2.  Watch about 21:50 for something I don't think many will have seen before.. it was new to me and Maya (the mummy osprey) was clealry in a bit of shock afterwards.

Obviously I jumped right to the bit you pointed out. What a freak occurrence that was.

Notice how the chicks played dead as soon as danger threatened.

Seems like pretty good news, which will no doubt be absent from most reporting

https://twitter.com/ChrisCEOHopson/status/1397451916532125696

1/11 - Just done @TimesRadio  interview this morning on current state of play in trusts particularly affected by variant that originated in India. Member feedback suggests the following. Hospitalisations increasing steadily but not precipitately. The next week or so will be key.

Good old Cummings.

Boris didn’t sack him after Barnard Castle when it was clear he should have. Resisted enormous political pressure then sees Cummings go for the jugular.

No loyalty in politics.

It was interesting to watch an interview with William Hague recently when he said that the Government has actually returned to running a lot more smoothly since Cummings left.

Basically said Cummings doesn’t have a clue on how Government works day to day.

Think it was always going to end this way - Cummings was always pretty clear about his disdain for politicians and party politics. Boris needed someone like him desperately to get Brexit over the line (when parliament become dysfunctional) Would have been better for them both to do that as a single project and go their separate ways after that. Especially since the Tories had a huge majority and could easily settle back into platitudinous, performative mediocrity for a few years.

Will always be glad he came along to put some lead in the Tories pencil for a key few months.
