Two of the best players in the world currently, Ronaldo and Suarez, wanted to leave Man Utd and Liverpool the season before they actually did.
Their clubs made them stay an extra season and they both performed brilliantly in their last season.
These are players worth spending the big money on.
Totally different situation for both Ronaldo and Suarez.
Ronaldo signed a new 5 year contract for United in April 07. Ronaldo wanted to leave after his best season in 2007/2008 when still 4 years left. Ferguson and Quiroz then agreed he could go 1 year later.
Suarez joined Liverpool in Jan 11 and signed a 5 1/2 year contract. The Arsenal fiasco was 1 1/2 years later when he still had 4 years left. He did also sign another contract during 13/14.
So their position was totally different to Sanchez. Arsenal would have been aware way before the end of last season that Sanchez wanted away because he wouldn't sign a new contract. It is also open knowledge (certainly in Manchester) that he has been City's prime transfer target for the last 6 months and probably didn't expect to play for Arsenal again after the Cup Final. Despite the contract situation Sanchez finished last season on fire after he had settled his fall out with Wenger
Sanchez has signed a contract. He has one year left. Unless the team he plays wants to sell him, the situation is no different to either Suarez or Ronaldo.
Apart from Man United getting 100m, Liverpool 75m and Arsenal getting zilch. Seems huge when they will have to spend 50 on a replacement.
What has his transfer value got to do with the player?
He has signed acontract to play for Arsenal this season. He'd be happy enough to draw the £250k per week now if he'd broken his leg playing for Chile in the summer.
Contracts work both ways. If Arsenal don't want to sell him, he is obligated to play for them.

Not sure Virgil is exactly doing as he is told, or Costa...
Ralph very quiet in defence of his idol today.
Suppose you cant defend the indefensible.
Still, AW has another 2 years to prove every pundit I have seen, heard or read in the last 24 hours wrong, because we all know he wont walk........

Oh I'm only singling out Sanchez because this is the Arsenal thread.
I'm all for footballers making as much as possible out of their talents. Rather they got the money than Rupert Murdoch and family.
But if they sign a contract they need to realise that comes with responsibilities.

The mirror guy is getting a lot of grief on twitter, but lets assume it is true.
It seems to make sense to Arsenal. I think a lot of criticism of Sterling is unwarrented, and he'll likely be a close enough fit for Sanchez. Surely a keen Sterling + cash is better than a disgruntled Sanchez + no transfer fee in 6 months. I am not sure why City would be happy to lose Sterling though, Guadiola seems to have brought out the best in him.
Would probably be better if they did a Wenger + cash type manager deal too.

Petr Cech has conceded more goals in 3 years at Arsenal than he did in 11 years at Chelsea

A reverse Leicester anyone?
