Happy to be in front for the day.  I have had one winner and a nice priced 3rd @ 20/1 that I backed e/w.  That last one was a bit of a monkey.   I've been looking at the 8:00 race since yesterday evening and I still can't fathom it out. 

Anyone got any fancies?  I am edging towards a lay of the FAV, but that's only because I can't come down on a winner. 

I like Hygrove Welshlady,  Waltzing Cat and Periloulsy in that order, but really think any one of the 3 could take the race.  I expect that the latter of those will be the one with most improvement. 

With so much uncertainty I think I might just take a watching brief.

Not heard much for today.  Bits and bobs floating around mostly for Wolves later tonight.  Had one winner for Ffos Las but I was late on getting up and missed the value.    The other one mentioned was Colour of  Love in the 3pm at Ffos Las as a decent e/w prospect, its should go well on the soft ground.

Clockmaker 2:00 D/caster - looks like one that will go well, especially if there is more rain.  I checked the forecasts, but from what I could see its just cloudy in the area with dropping temps, hopefully we get some rain and the ground gets cut up in the early races.  This horse could be really well drawn as well.

14/1 with most bookies, trading around 20's on betfair. 

As I acknowledged in reply to Girgy, I do find Doncaster difficult.   But actually feel quite confident about this selection, would be even happier if the rain comes.

It kinds of reminds me of a dream I used to have when I was a youngster sneaking out of college to the local William Hill. Basically I´d somehow come across a Racing Post from the future a la Biff with his Sports Almanac in Back to the Future. Obviously I´d take all the local bookies to the cleaners in this dream. It even has the detail of throwing in a 33/1 that only sneaks a third so that the poor old boy in William Hill would be less suspicious as I helped myself to his Christmas bonus.

I don't really like betting in jump meets at this time of the year, but I like to keep an eye on them for later on as you can pick up some useful info from them.  When going through the Down Royal card earlier this morning I liked the look of Thomas Edison in the 12:40, thought it would shape well but really surprised by the price.  I'd have thought somewhere like 7/1 would be about right, but 16/1??  I've a few quid e/w on it.

Despite trying to unship it's amateur pilot at the first two hurdles.

Seeing as this is a tipping thread, got a view in the 345 kelso, a horse that won well twice before unseating in hurdle race when went off fav, next time refused to race so clearly a bit of a thinker. Think could be a good in running bet ie if it actually starts the freaking race, horse in question is Endeavour, runs off bottom weight and should be a decent price, just about to look on bet fair now. just looked and trading 24 got to be worth a bet if jumping off.

all round  disappointing. missed the start and had to make up miles to get back in it and fell giving it everything over the last. one for next time.

A tipster I often like to keep an eye on is Hugh Taylor of ATR, I guess its because we do similar things in that we never often really select short priced favourites instead we look for horses that are likely improvers from previous races. 

Today at Ffos Las he has put one up @ 28/1 - Nodebateaboutit its now 14/1, however in the same race I like Take Of Shoc's the stable have a decent record with horses they buy in, but I'd liked to have seen a wee bit more support in the market for it.  Backable e/w though @ 7/1.

With free bets I edge on the side of caution and tend to just get a winner on the board, I don't go looking for any fancy value.  Which others might want to do as its a free roll.  I am happy to back anything at around 11/10 with these types of bets as it gives us some money in the bank and we can play small on the bigger priced runners. 

Catch the Fire 11/8 @ Ffos in the 4:15 looks as if it could be in with a real good chance, interesting that there has been a good bit of support for this horse earlier today.

I am currently working on a small experiment the now for very small stakes but might look at increasing the stakes if things continue to go well, basically all I am doing is betting the morning line 2nd best according to the ATR tissue price.  So far its went quite well.  

To quantify this, I am not just betting every 2nd best, but selecting horses on price only.  I know very little about American racing and have often just left it alone.  However with the coverage of the racing on sky I have noticed that there are some decent opportunities to make money from betfair. 

An example of what I am looking to do is try and get a bet matched at around 1.6 x the expected SP.  So in the 8:24 at Finger Lakes I am looking to back Brazen Kat @ 5.0, if I get matched then great if not I am not overly bothered as its only small stakes I am playing for.  At the same time as doing this I am using it as a learning experience to increase my own knowledge of American racing. 

If the horse I am looking to back opens a bigger price than what was initially expected even with my 1.6 factor I am happy to lower the stake again and take the biggest price possible.  Some might say I am giving up an edge by making smaller bets, but this will help with the variance I think.

This one I have a selection in is very interesting they are backing the favourite off the board and the other market principles are on the drift.   I managed to get matched @ 5.3.

There are a few horses running today that interest me, based on what I thought would be improvement from their previous runs. 

At a big price I can't ignore Lost City in the 1:25 @ Lingfield, I am not 100% certain that it will win.  But at 16/1 I can't not back it on debut they smashed into this horse at the Curragh and although it finished last it hung badly on the day, but has since been gelded, for Fahey to run one at the Curragh for its debut it must have shown something at home, and the money that came for it on course probably expected a big return. 

I have 2 others that I will put up in the next few minutes, but I wanted to get this one up as the race is due off soon.

Sky Crystal (2pm Lingfield) was one that caught the eye of a few judges when a staying on 6th of 10 on race course debut over 10 furlongs, I would think that with an extra 2 furlongs it will find improvement.  

I would be interested in Eso Krals views on Hereford Boy, as I have noticed he sticks up a fair few horses from Dean Ivory's yard.  

7:45 - Weetentherty - I have been told to back this horse.  It comes from the same source that gave me my first winner on this thread.  Its an opinion I respect, and would back it blind on his say so.  

The jockey never covered himself in glory, I think he was looking for too much cover, and when he got out the horse was still hanging, I'd be interested to see this one go round Kempton for a spin.

Earlier today I had small bets on both Baldassarre win/place and Ypres place - I got fairly big prices on both. 

I think the 2 shorties at the front of the market might struggle to get a decent pitch early and could be caught out by any kickback.

Sorry about that one folks, we never really got a run for our money.   Pretty poor effort infact.  I think there was a jockey change as well.  and I was quite enthused by the fact that Tom Eaves ended up on our boy as he's a jockey I like on the all weather surface. 

Hopefully I'll redeem myself today and give us a few sweats.    Just going through the cards just now, I have one in mind that I've been wanting to back after seeing it run well a few runs back and I thought it might improve as soon as my price is matched I'll post.

In the 1:40 I expect that Gloriam will go very well.  Stepping up to a mile will bring out further improvement and has shown already that he handles this type of surface, and was stretching clear the further he went at Wolverhampton on his 2nd race.  Also the form from his debut race at Newbury appears to be working out really well.  The big danger for me is obviously the Godolphin horse under the stewardship of yesterdays hero Will Buick.  

3:20 Lingfield - Blue Moon looks like a max bet to me.  It has shown up well on the A/W in the past.  Was progressing well in handicaps before racing in Listed company at Dundalk on last start and this will be a much easier race.   I'll be backing this one e/w with an account I hold that gives me 30% cash back on losing bets and will be playing the place only market on betfair.  

Crimson Queen - 6:20 Wolves - ticks all the boxes for me, C&D form, good recent form, showed up well after a short break and sure to be a bit fitter this time plus the jockey is a guy I like, normally gives us a good run for our money and importantly has a decent draw in a sharp sprint.  

I'm going to be an absolute mug today.  I have stuck all 3 of these in a patent.   I never advise these types of bets.

Not the best of days so far, I really thought Blue Moon was coming with a big run but it never seemed to pick up enough speed.   Glorian was touched off on the line by the Godolphin horse after looking like it was going to keep its head in front.  To top it all off I missed the winning tip posted on this thread earlier. 

On other bets I have had today I have had two finish 3rd and two finish 2nd and one out the frame.  I'm  8.5 points down on the day, with a 2pt bet still to run, hopefully find something to let me free roll the Wolverhampton meeting tonight as I am out for dinner.    Would be nice to sit down to my meal knowing that I am at least break even for the day no matter what the result is at Wolves

I thought it was going well, but I think the big hike in weight just took its toll.  It mustve been a real good thing when it was rated 85.

Once again, we're involved in a bit of a blanket finish, but it means nothing when we're losing.  I suppose the good thing is at least the logic that's being applied to these races is giving us a chance, seems I just need a little bit more luck in key spots.  Pretty frustrating day all round.

1:20 Leicester - Billy Blade looks like a backable e/w bet @ 18/1  I was tempted to fire in Trip The Light as well at 11/1- but have decided to leave that one out.

I haven't had a look at much yet, but I'd think there will be a few dirty e/w races out there today.  

Anyone have any thoughts on this?  I really like to try an oppose the fav/2nd best in these type of races and get the value from those at bigger prices.  Sometimes that might be passing up stake back but more often than not for me it results in a long term profit, also the key to this is spreading your bets with various companies so as not to have your account flagged.  For me its quite easy as I have a Ladbrokes, Hills, Coral, Paddy Power all within walking distance.  

Wings Of Icarus - 4pm @ plumpton 2/1 - not normal I'd tip up a 2/1 shot but I really like this one.

Had a small dabble on Les Verguettes in the 2:10 @ Wolves. 

It has form over course and distance and I'd hope that the switch in trainer would freshen it up.

The last few days have been pretty bad, but as I mentioned earlier in this thread variance is a major pain in the backside.  I have been on the wrongside of a few bets, been involved in a few close finishes and had some downright bad selections. 

I am really confident about the bet I put up earlier for the Plumpton bumper but if that don't win I am heading for a car wreck week.  I have one more bet at Wolverhampton in the 3:40 I am on Camrock Star at a big price. 

If I don't get a place/win with these 2 remaining selections I will be taking a few days off.  Sometimes that's as good as putting in a few winning days.  Just taking a watching brief can help deliver results.

I was hoping for a better performance from Glenridding as it got the better of Needwood Ridge a few races back, but I can take comfort from the fact that Glenridding never managed to get the lead, which is a big must for him. 

The other horse I liked was Woodfall Sovereign.  I think you should get on that SirP. 

I have a small bet on Needwood Ridge so you should all back the other one.

No doubt you got off to an amazing start on the thread but you're sticking up more and more horses and thats not really the way that a solid horse backer would go about it unless they are a betfair player.

I don't want to upset the boat but given people are following these tips and you are posting more and more, poor milligan will be doing his conkers if he backs them all and you turn out to be someone who just got off to a very lucky start with some amateur tipstering.

Please don't take offence, i don't intend it to be caused.

I here tit-bits, I use my own judgement.  I don't post all my bets on here.  Some I do some I don't.

If people follow what I post then that is a risk they take.

Totally crazy to have a go at this guy, other than the fact he tipped several winners no one had any reason to think he was any more shrewd than Scottish Dave or Glasgow Bandit, he ran incredibly well for a while and it was great but there´s no justfication for having a go at him now.

Raman is an all-weather specialist it seems with a few contacts and appears to be a fair judge.

I missed his flying start but have enjoyed a nice profit since having small bets on many of his selections.

He seems alright to me and as he says, he never claimed to be a pro.

Dont think Ace was having a go more trying to find out a bit about Raman, I suppose as he came on and gave some big priced winners early people will think he is a god and then you have a few losers and your not.

No offence taken by me at all.  I tried to quantify things earlier in the thread when I was giving hero status by a few that variance would even things out.  

I can continue to post some of my selections based on my criteria which should hopefully see us return a decent profit when we get a winner or a place, or I could regularly select a horse at < 3/1 each day which unless we run like God will see us running at a loss.

Another point of interest that should be noted, and I have previously alluded to it and only Simon Galloway asked further about it is I have a deal in place, sort of like an affilliate with a bookmaker who gives me a % of losing bets back so for me it makes sense to continue backing these bigger priced horses.

Back to the horses.

I have already had a few bets this morning, one of which has appeared to be a bit of a springer.  12:20 Southwell I backed Bonnie Prince Blue @ 25/1 its now around 12/1.  I also like St Oswald in the same race, it could go well if handling the switch to fibresand.  I could potentially be on both as a free roll.  Undecided.

I have just had a positive for Bonnie Prince Blue myself although I can't see where it was ever 25/1?

I don't know much about it, but at first glance of your post that seems reasonable to me. 

The only races I would even consider it would be novice chases.  In handicap hurdles like your tip earlier it is nothing more than a nice to have and I certainly wouldn't take a worse price with it.

The horse ACE2M tipped up earlier fell last time out.  If I was backing that horse I think I would prefer to have the insurance in place. 

Why would you only take it in Novice chases?  I appreciate that you make your living from betting so would value your opinion on this one.   

think if it is greater than 7% to fall this would be good (obv ignoring that 5/2 is available)

my maths are that (if 9/4 is the true price):

the horse wins 31% return .93

falls 7% return .07

loses without falling 62% return 0

I would obviously take it wherever it was offered but I would only take a shorter price in a Novice Chase because that is the form of racing with the most amount of fallers.  Iirc less than 3% of hurdlers fall and in chases it is closer to 8%.  I would imagine novice chases are closer to 12% if not higher.  Obviously if you could get the concession in chases then there are some courses whedre it would be more valuable than others.  Aintree being the obvious example but also places like Stratford and Towcester.  That said I have never seen it offered outside of hurdle races and, as such, I have never placed much value on it.

Okay, that makes much more sense now.  I just assumed this was something new that PP were offering on all races over obstacles.  If its only on selected races then it doesn't appeal so much. 

paddys do it on every jumps race i think.

If that is the case then it is an amazing offer in certain races.

If it runs as well as it did the last time it ran at this course it should win comfortably.

I like the chance of San Antonio.  It has reasonable form over C&D and on this surface, but it has to be in the van seat early or just loses interest.  I think from stall 7 it can get itself into contention and with a reliable jockey and at a big price it meets all my criteria.

Been having a look at the Kempton Card and there isn't a lot I like the look of at all.

A few small bets I have had are Chasin Rainbows 4:50, Sandfrankskipsgo 5:50. I have done both e/w singles and double.

In the last race I have also had a few quid e/w on the Curley horse Sir Mozart.   Just for fun rather than anything else.  I hate when i miss out when he lands a coup.

He only lands a touch about once every three years these days and any horse that looks like having any remote chance always seems to be priced way too short.

True, but I was on early at a fancy price, sometimes it doesn't take a lot of money to move a Curley horse and there can become potential to lay it off for a free roll.  Not the most scientific way to make money.

I really really fancy  ZAFEENS PEARL in the 2.25 Lingfield today and have already taken some prices bigger than the 11/2 that was available this morning.

I spoke to the stable jockey via text but he is away and has been for 10days so didnt know too much but we both agreed it has a chance.

IMO and i stress IMO this horse ran ok at Donny in the race after Sirius Prospect had done the business for us a few weeks ago and I have been waiting for this to come out since, it got bumped a few out and then had no chance but back on the all weather i expect a better performance. The way the horse ran at Wolverhampton on its last win it was value for much more than the distance but this horse does not want to hit the front too early and Shane Kelly gets a great tune out of it.

If you like to back to lay again IMO i think this represents a chance as the horse travels really well in its races and i can see it travelling well into the straight and trading a lot shorter in running but obviously i hope it WINS!!!!

 However thought this was a good priced horse to put up that's come down in the weights,  a tough handicap so could be a bit of value at around the 25/1 mark.
Trainers in reasonable form too which is  always a good sign .
This horse has contested in some  hot races and his last win was 2 years ago. Got alot of miles on the clock and soon to be 10yr old hurdler hence the price.
Since joining the stable from Venetia Williams the current trainer has highly tried this horse to no effect  but todays race looks like a  ' plan' to me .
It's got decent prize money and doesn't look like there's any world beaters in there .
Its run last time out wasn't a bad little race and the Nicholls winner could be decent .
 I can really see this horse returning to form today and running well .
Only a fancy but thought i would share that's all .

Tips were more solid when they used to come in on their own threads. Like the dewi thread. This thread just seams to be anybody tipping up a fancy. Yea they might of studied the past form etc  but just seams like theres no solid info from behind the scenes. I wasnt on btw.

Thats not my point at all. My point is that as there is an ***OFFICIAL***Thread for tips that people just jump on a post 'fancies' of theirs instead of 'Tips' that were in their own thread.

There has been some random punting ITT to be fair. Even an idiot like me knows there is a difference between a tip and a punt.

I could come on 'Tip' up an Evens shot and then say 'oh well, i got that one wrong' when it limps in 3rd 30 length behind.

Most tips are random punts, I am sure we have all received texts and calls from people in the past saying got a horse etc. 

Most of us won't have reliable sources, some will but even then its not guaranteed that the horse in question is going to win. 

And because a thread says its OFFICIAL doesn't make it any different. 

What criteria would you like to see Girgy for a "tip"

Id just like to see more info on why the person is selecting the Horse. Not 'xxxxxxxx its a short price but should go well'.

Eso Krals tipping up of Sirius Prospect has been pretty solid cos of his advice from the stable jockey who is working with the animal daily.

Basically a "tip" means that someone shrewd or a "face" (i.e. somebody who shows a profit in the long run) is betting their money. They will have already probably snaffled the best available prices so what was +ev might not now be so as what is "value @ 9/2 might well not be @ 7/2.

You have to decide for yourself which of the posters know their onions and how much value might be left in their selections which they are sharing with you.

As someone smart once said "there is no free lunch", and that is an absolute certainty.

To be honest I don't really understand what the difference is that you are talking about.  What are you defining as a 'tip'?  Karabiner is closest in his post in so far as that selections on their own are absolutely useless.  I 'fancy' a lot of horses everyday and I bet a lot of horses everyday.  On a couple of days a week there is absolutely no overlap between the two lists.  Price is absolutely everything and until most punters get this into their heads they will just continue to drip feed money into the bookies satchells.  Eso Kral did tip up Sirius Prospect a couple of times on this board and he has done well out of it but the info on its own is only a part of the puzzle.  Hope Eso doesn't mind me saying but the last tiem Sirious ran he showed he understood this enough to ask me to price the race in advance for him.  I said i thought it was 5/1 the frint two Our Jonathan and Sirius with another at about 6/1.  Obv if he had soem stable info that would change those prices a bit but not not massively...the info he got I thought made it a decent bet at 7/2+...it was 11/2 so it was a very good bet that day.  At evens it cannot poosibly be a bet even if Eso says the stable have their kids on it.  It is all about price.  Everything has a price and sometimes that means betting long odds on and other times it means passing on a 33/1 shot.  IMO a 'tip' without a prive proviso is pretty much pointless.

I pretty much agree with what Red Armi says in his last post.

I don't see what benefit me or anyone else giving analysis helps others make a decision, I would think that those following these "tips" were most likely just to get involved regardless.  There are a few posters whom follow certain selections from what I can see but don't get involved in everything.   

Like Red Armi, I fancy numerous horses every other day I bet on around 60% of all races.  I do okay.  Some days are much better than others, generally though I wouldn't dream of sticking a horse on here at 10/11 or EVNS etc as anyone could do that and it makes the thready pretty much pointless, otherwise we could start an ****OFFICIAL FAVOURITES**** thread.  I have said on a few occasions and have answered pm's to the same extent, when i post a horse here more often than not its because I have seen it race before and thought there might be potential improvement or I believe the conditions that it was running in on any given day may have suited better than what it ran on previously hence why I think it may improve.  Also I might put up a few that I have heard bits of info flying around.  I don't have any access to stables or info about what horses have been working well at home and stuff like that.

The above is a list of the horses I have put up on here as bets since the 1st of November, I haven't done the maths on it but I would reckon that I am still a good few quid in front to a level £1 stake.  Now bearing in mind most of my selections are normally decent prices I back them e/w. 

I'm going to get my head down for the night and will work out the profit/loss tomorrow morning but if someone fancies giving it a go before then i'd be happy to see the figures to a £1 e/w and to make things easier I'll settle on 1/5 the odds on the placed efforts.

If you take out the 20-1 advised by pm to Girgy then you are winning 3.5 points over 50 bets.  I cba to work out the place element because it is such a laughably bad strategy to bet horses each way because they are a big price without any idea of the number of runners, price of the favourite or type of race.  Not really a rubdown but I would happily lay you evens that you could win over a fresh 100 bet sample.

im betting 3 tommorow 12.50 elegant touch e/w in the 12.50 if its 7/2+ emma lavelle horses flying, and the horse has a 7lb pull with the fav with beat it 4l last time out over C+D should go very close etc....yawn
                                  1.10 really like ezra church e/w at the 6/1 has won well fresh in the past fresh over C+D barrons horses are well in form, and i think its very solid e/w punt

I like the one Action Man has selected for the next at Southwell.   I missed the 6/1 on this so have opted for an e/w bet on JR Hartley. 

Anyone have any thoughts on Cape of Storms?  I'm tempted to have a small punt on that as well, it has form over C&D which for me is very important at Southwell.  All its wins have come over this course and distance, but its not been done any favours by the handicaper.

Was up and walking about there just now shown on ATR, walked into horse ambulance which has to be a good sign.  Pleased to see that as  it looked a classy type, hopefully it returns to full fitness and learns to settle. 

Yes just heard.  Horse has had a rough go of it.  It was one of the horses that was distressed at Newbury when the two horses got elecrocuted.
