Just before the huge Berridge Garnham hand, I lost a little concentration I think.

I'm cruising with 27k, a new guy to the Table, who I note has targeted my BB, makes it 1,600. (300-600 I think).

I have AK, & glance quickly at his stack. Looks to be about 7k or so. I decide to make it 5k, in effect telling him "I'm not Passing".

He Shoves, I insta-Call, he has Queens, I miss, he rivers his third Queen. OK, no worries. His stack is counted. 14k......HOW MANY? Jeez, maybe if I'd realised that I'd have flatted him & taken a Flop, & got off for 1,600. Bugger. Back to 14k then. Having said thart, we were racing, & if I hit I'm huge. I'm still not certain I played it right. On balance, I think I should have flatted him pre. Ah well, it's done now, & I need to re-adjust my thinking, as I'm now way below average, but no need to panic, I still have 20+ BB's

Then the Beridge-Garnham hand went off, & so what happened next? No prizes. Richard shoves 5 consecutive hands!

I Pass KQ (he had threes), A-7  (he could have anything) & so on.

Eventually, on my BB, Richrd shoves again, & I find

His range here is huge, & I'm quite sure I'm ahead. But facing, I'm equally certain, live cards. For my Tourney.

I dither a bit. It'd be a nice short-cut back to my 27k if my hand holds......

Bugger it - I Call. He has Q-9 & two Pairs it, & I'm almost felted.

There's no definitive right or wrong here - I just decided I'd take a shot, & it went wrong. Damn!

I moved in Blind the next hand (I had 2,600 left) & was pleasantly surprised to see I had A-T suited. And Jason Wong, an old sparring partner of mine from my Gala days, called me blind. With A-Q suited!

So that was that.

Great fun, & thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm still not sure about that A-J call - I hate calling with that - & I'm sure I misplayed the A-K v the Queens, though if it had hit......

A fun Tourney. No regrets really.

Well I was going to, but then I noticed your pass of KQ A7 etc.

If only there was some freeware out there that  calculated your chances with these hands against the assigned random hand of your opponent....

Tikay the only hands you played right were AJ and AK and they are the ones you question??!

The KQ is a snap, A7 is a bit meh depends on where you are sat.

The KK is just, well i can't figure it out.

With Blinds at 400-800, RA of 100, & I had 2,600, me in late position & no action so far, I don't think that one can be argued......

I Passed the KQ because he can have any A, & the A-7 becaise it's just a shocker to call for 12k with. IMO.

The reward for risking that he has any A (AND you don't outdraw it) is that he shows up with K-bit or Q-bit quite a lot of the time as well as other random assortment of crap that you are in front of.

I got my quip in first Wink

He can also have any K or any Q....

Do you fold KK because your oppo can have AA?

OK, off to play the DTD £200 which starts at 5pm. I lasted 2 hands last time I played that one.

So Luton tonight is a possibility.......

Enjoy your Sunday evening, whatever you do.

You are cruising along because you are playing good poker. So when you notice new guy has targeted your bb you don't want to be calling to try and hit cards oop and then c/folding the flop. This would be plain bad poker and an easy way to reverse your current situation. It would also give new guy every justification for coming after you, and we don't want that. No, you want to be pumping it back up there to show him what happens when he targets your blind and just carry on with the good poker, wherever that may take you. This is what you did, what more can you do? This is not a mistake.

Miscalculating your oppo's chips by like 50% seems to be the the only real mistake on view here Smiley

Sorry to carry on talking about poker  here ( it's not why I normally read this thread  ), but can you spare a moment to explain your thinking a tad more , please.

You mentioned earlier that you knew he was going to go into shove mode, so you've got him down as playing any two against you.

Both KQs and AJs are both 2/1 ish against random stuff.

But when he first pushed he must have had a stack that would still leave you with  10 big blinds, even if you lost, but on the latter hand, his stack had grown so that it would cripple you to lose.

I'm no live player, and a pretty poor net player, but surely, if you're passing the first hand, then you have to carry on passing until he's either grown his stack and stopped pushing.  Or wait until you have something like JJ or better.

I vaguely remember you saying many moons ago that you played poker as simply as possible.  Which meant getting your chips in when you think you're in front.  And then relying on the luck to even itself out, so eventually you come out on top.   Have I got that wrong ?  Coz , tbh, it's pretty much how I try to play the game nowadays.  I'm no fancy player down the streets - If I think I'm in front, and have a chance at a call, I'll happily shove.

I understand a little bit about the gap concept, or whatever it's called.  Which is why your call with the AJ confuses me.

Anyone mind if I slip in here with a photo.

Not an old black and white one, but this little beauty is a classic antique in it's own way.

Any idea of what it is, and why it's so special ?

I just love the exhaust - Batman before they ever thought about it.
