There was the oddest hand on my Table just after the first break. Quiet, solid guy to my left made it 600 (100-200), & a Gent at the other end suddenly slapped his entire 7k in the middle! WTF?
Eventually, solid guy calls with AK, I mean, he can't be in too bad shape here, can he?
Mr Popper tabled A-6. Not one, but two sixes appeared, which is fair enough, but he than gave an almighty table-bang. Ugh.
Mr Popper continued in this vein, before very soon & very inevitably imploding.
He'd been perfectly "normal" pre-Break, but post-break, his demeanour changed completely. Very odd.
"Mr Popper" does, of course, refer to his style of re-popping everyone. Just in case you thought otherwise.
Do we have to read between the 'lines' there?

I had Richard Berridge on my Table early doors, & after being moved, he returned later. I tried to avooid tangling with him, he's got a very shrewd poker mind, masked somewhat by his verbosity, & he's a far better player than he's given credit for.
He hit three straights in the first 20 minutes, all from the Blinds in UnRaised or min-Raised Pots, holding 2-5, 2-4 & 3-6 or somesuch!
He straighted against my Kings, too, when I made it 200 UTG, & attracted 6 callers. Oops.
It came 6-7-9, two hearts, & I could not being myself to Bet out, & the Turn card had me done with the hand - 5 of hearts. A straight and a Flush went all the way, & a decent Pot ensued, but it only cost me 200. I suppose I should have bet the Flop, but I just sensed it would not get through.
I got inolved with Richard again shortly after. He Raised - he does most hands - & I Called with
.
It came two Clubs, he bet, OK, I call.
The turn looked like this.....
Hmm.....This I like.
More action from Richard, I call again.
Richard promptly announces "you must have
........."!
An off-suit 7 Rivers to give me my straight, I value-bet small, but before my chips hit the Table, Richard had mucked. He told me he had two over-Clubs to mine, so I got lucky the Club never rivered.
Then he got moved, & I was well pleased. Not because of any reason except he's well difficult to play against, & I felt I had the rest of the Table "covered" so to speak.
With Richard out of the way, I can pick up a few Pots now, but when he's around, it's bloody tough, as he outplays me every time.

Just side-tracking for a moment here.....
At DTD on Friday night, there was an All-In & two Callers.
One of the Callers then openly says to the other "let's check it down". The All-In Man protests, & the "let's check it down" man got a Time Penalty!
I've never seen that in the UK before, though it's a standard Time-Penalty anywhere in Europe.
Bravo DTD!

Someone did that on the cash table - same situation. No one uttered a word. I was going to say something, but wasn't confident I'd heard the player correctly (all three players were at the other end of the table) and as I wasn't involved in the hand thought it best left to those involved.

See if you can work out the country this train museum was. Snowplow. Apparently, because it completely blocked the driver's view, a man used to perch on top and shout back to the driver if the wall of snow was likely to prove difficult...
No idea. Japan or Switzerland spring to mind, but with no great confidence.
Russia?
Good guesses. Answer is.... Denmark.
Interesting place for trains. Because of the large number of Islands, they had many arrangements like the model pic below. Until they built monster bridges/tunnels between them all. The train museum had as many models of boats as it did trains. Good place though, if you're interested. In Odense, which is the main town on the middle island.
I'll stop with the trains now

My "form" has been awful recently, I don't go round giving it the "sick sick sick, woe is me" nonsense, because I know it always changes in time, & so it proved last night, when I hand hand after hand, Aces & Kings three times each, & hit lots of Flops.
Paul Garnham got unlucky twice against me. I flopped the Nut Flush, & quite reasonably, after everyone checked all the way, he bet on the end.
Then he Raised, & I found Aces yet again, & Re-Raised, & he called. The K-K-7 flop killed the action, he bet once I think, & I flatted it, & took a nice Pot. I think he may have had QQ or JJ.
I just steadily accumulated chips, & soon had 27k, wirth average 17k. Easy game, & there was no way I would not make Day Two with a decent stack for once.
I get fascinated by "side-plots" that affect Tourneys, & meanwhile, Paul Garnham's luck changed. Bear with me here, it's all relevant.
He Called Golfer Dave's UTG Raise with 7-7, it came 7 high, Golfer Dave bet out & got himself Pot-Stuck, & Paul took a big pot. Golfer Dave had Aces.
Later, Paul had T-T & housed up against a medium Ace on an A high board, & took another monster.
Then Richard Berridge retuned to our Table, gulp, & he was in Seat 5, Paul in 6, me in 7. I just knew this would get hot, as Richard is so awkward to play against. I resilved not to tangle with Richard again, especially as I was in cruise mode, & had no need to.
But events were about to see my prophecy come true.....

You must speak up when this happens - if DTD don't know, they can't act! Sadfly, at any other UK Venue, it would be allowed.

I was going to, but like I said I wasn't sure that I hadn't misheard what was said. The fact no one else batted an eyelid makes me think I might have been wrong. But they did both check it down - and they chopped it - both with AQ.
As a noob to live play, I guess I wasn't confident enough to stick my head above the parapet if I wasn't 100%.

her giggle is infectious and instantly puts me in a better mood
very unlucky tikay to run into berridge on shove mode
Thanks Fran.
It was my own fault, the exit, I did not have to Call, but it was all inter-dependent on other stuff that had gone off. Description to follow.
I hope Richard goes on to be 2nd. It's Karabiner's turn to win one of these!

Does that make me wrong for berating someone last night for not checking it down/seeing flop before making any play? Short stack all in on button. Small blind goes all in massive chips. BB can't call. SB shows 9 3 off. Button wins hand. BB would have taken it and we would have lost another player.
Wouldn't it have been the correct play to at least have seen the flop?

So, back to the action.
Richard returns in Seat 5, to Paul in 6, & me in 7. I did not wanna tangle with Richard, he's too hot for me, & I was pretty much playing Paul with a straight bat, not messing about, we both had stacks way above average. We can get it on in the Final......
Then, almost inevitably, & right out of the blue, a huge Pot developed betwen Richard & Paul. They are in the Blinds, no limpers, & Richard Raises. Well he would, I can see Paul thinking.
Richard had A-J off, & Paul had K-8 of hearts.
Paul dwelled for an age, knowing, or thinking, Richard did not have much. And so Calls.
The flop came J high, two Hearts, Richard bets out, Paul dwells again - "call or Raise?" I sense he's thinking - & flats.
The turn was an absolutely delicious card - here was the Board now.....
(or similar).
So Richard has TPTK, & Paul has straight draw, flush draw, & the K all running for him. About 18 outs or so?
Now the action gets well interesting.
Richard cleverly checks here, to induce the Bet behind, & Paul, I believe, may have slightly overbet. And Bang - Richard shoves!
This is a huge decision for Paul. He's in good shape - or was before this hand - & now his Tourney is on the line. Call, or Pass? He dwells for a goodly while, then makes the Call. And Hits.
Now he's massive, & Richard is down to 6k.
And now my problem began......I just KNOW Richard is gonna go into serial-shove mode, as he's down to 6k, with Blinds 400-800, & RA of 100.
But it should not affect me - I still have 27k.
Or I did....

This, Mr Rosbif, is Nottingham.
"We shall not Pass".
It may have been a crap play, but I was entirely happy with it. Unlike a few later.....
