My choice for next up, all purchased @ the Airport book shop, are......

"Seve" - the Autobio.

"Too Big to Fail" - the inside battle to save Wall Street.

"Life" - Keith Richard's Autobio.

"One Click" - Jeff Bezos & the rise of Amazon.

"Steve Jobs", by Walter Isaacson.

I just read Boomerang by Michael Lewis. It's less a book and more a collection of Vanity Fair articles, but a great read nonetheless. Check it out. I love some good journalism me, makes a nice change to the day job.

How did you end up in that Tourney on Tuesday? You were deep in the cash when I last looked.

Meanwhile, I was looking like Finalling in the Omaha, with 11 left. I finished 11th.....

As luck would have it, I could not have returned to play the Final next day, as I got a touch of bronchitis, & have been laid up in bed ever since, never even got up yesterday.

May even be able to say that most hackneyed & unoriginal comment the kids so adore.

Thanks, will take a look. I used to subscribe to Vanity Fair, had some thought provoking articles.

My "to read" backlog is huge now. Every time I fly somewhere, I pick up 6 or 7 books at the Airport Bookshop, & I go to Foyles in London twice a year & never return with less than 20 books, hence I now have a huge backlog of reading material.

I've been buying books all my adult life, & keep them all. The miracle of the total destruction of the inside of my house last Xmas was that I only lost about 20 books, & yet eveything else in the house was trashed. My own fault, too, I have a bad habit of leaving books all over the place, in little piles. Had they been in the bookshelves, they would have been saved.

On my bucket list I have "read all the unread ones", "read every book again", & "get all the books catalogued". I really would love to catalogue the entire collection. Their value - monetary - is not important, though some of them are very rare, signed first editions of antiquaran horse racing & racehorse breeding books etc. I have the full Timeform "Racehorses of 19xx" sets from start until around 1990, too.

I cannot think of anything in life that has given me greater happiness than books. Hardly anything anyway, I guess there may be a few exceptions.....

With my Omaha tourney table right outside the "Noodle Asia" I felt obliged to sample the roast duck and pork with rice, as recommended by Methuselah.

Not bad, or would not have been, had they not included some form of green and White vegetable, which looked like a cross between a leek and a squid. Note he never warned me about that. He did say that the food was delivered quickly though, and he was on the money with that, it was served up within 2 or 3 minutes from being ordered.

Tomorrow, if this chest/cold improves, am gonna try the minced beef with an egg sunny side up rice dish. Actually sounds half palatable, assuming the absence of vegetables sneaked onto the plate.

At a guess, I'm going with bok choy...

Yup, that was the stuff. I nearly threw up at the very sight of it. It was TOUCHING the rice, too. Ugh.

Think it may have been the cause of my malaise.

I got the Steve Jobs book because he appears to be something of an enigma.

Designs, produces & sells cool gear? Just a bit. Nobody better at that, & his stuff is just so good, such build quality, so innovative. Proper Job.

So, the poor chap died recently, & the "Steve Jobs RIP" thread arose on blonde. Suddenly, like, it seems, most people who die, he suddenly become a Saint, & a wonderful person.

It seemed churlish to comment adversely so close to his passing, so I never.

A friend of mine, who can remain anon for now, in case this gets flamed to death, sent me this piece about Jobs, which sparked my interest, hence buying the book.

Please note it is a 4 page piece, & page 3 is quite inrteresting, as a counterpoint to all the "Jobs is a God" stuff.

You ever read "Scar Tissue" - the Anthony Kiedis bio? Extraordinary, & well worth a look. No idea how he survived, but like KR, & Steven Tyler, & so many others, he did, somehow.

Will pick that up ty.

Never thought of it before as one doesn't think of him having had time to live a 'life', as he is only a few years older than me.  A quick scan of his wiki page suggests otherwise. Its on my list.

He was totally owned & destroyed by drug addiction, but somehow, every time an album needed recording, he'd do rehab, & recover, then go do the album. The moment the recording was finished - the VERY moment - he'd revert to drugs again, & not get clean until the next album came along.

It was, I believe, his Dad's fault, his Dad encouraged him to do drugs, encouraged him to sample tham at an early age.

As a general rule in life, like father, like son. Show me a bad father & all that.....

I've started the Keith Richards book - excellent so far. A very "earthy" style. Souns like his ghost did tape-recordings, then just edited as necessary. Times have changed a bit, odd to read how much they were villified because of such dreadful things as long hair!

Is there anything as much fun in poker as Omaha, you do see some absolutely intriguing situations.

I played the Venetian $500 on Tuesday, & was involved in this corker. I won it, but not a chirp, as it played itself.

As a curiosity, if your whole life depended upon it, all the money you possess, could or would you pass any of these hands on the Flop? We were all playing relatively deep - at least 150 BB's each.

So, on that flop, with the flopped temporary nuts, I was only 26% to win, or 21% to tie.

Villain 1, also with the flopped nuts, but no extensions, was ZERO % to win, & 21% to tie.

Villain 2 was 53% to win.

So the two players with flopped nuts were dogs to WIN.

On the Turn, I was a 97% dog, the other flopped nuts guy was drawing totally dead.

What a difference a card makes!

There was no Online-style moaning or groaning either.

Despite that outrageous slice of luck, I still failed to Final. Says it all.....

Today, at 3pm, is the 8 or better. Undecided if I'll play at all yet, as I'm still under the weather, but if I play, I'll play the 8 or better I think, rather than the Noon NLHE, so much fun. I might not win, but I'll sure as hell enjoy it. What a great game Omaha is.

Villain #1 should have been able to find a fold there really playing 150BB's deep IMO.

I'm proud of you for trying that dish from Asia Noodles, I'm salivating here thinking about it, but why on earth did you inhale the pak choi?
