My football correspondent (Who BTW is culture personified) has been woefully quiet, one might even say moribund, on my diary of late. perhaps our team isn't doing so well..

Au contraire.
We won our group in the Champion's League qualifying with a game to spare unlike some others.
In the Premier league we've recovered from a poor start and are on a great run.
We seem to be running a little low on full-backs with our top four all injured but appear to be coping.
Prepare yourself and all of the other karma-chameleons for regular updates from now on.

Don't understand why people can't be happy that man united or man city went out of the cl?
Man United are a team that it's easy to dislike. After years and years of success (which is obviously admirable) they have built up a lot of rivalries. Why would these rivals (chelsea, arsenal, liverpool, newcastle, man city etc) want them to do well in the champions league? It's better for all these teams if man united are out.
Their fanbase is a joke - just how many are from manchester?!
I support chelsea who I think over the last 6 years or so have run pretty good with refereeing decisions for the large part but the way man utd run is joke lol. Another reason people are happy to see them out.
Ironic that you're calling Man U's fanbase. Had Chelsea manage to sustain the success they bought they would have a very similar fanbase and you would be tarred with the same brush that you're tarring United fans with

I assume you're not really a football guy mr british cowboy sir?
It matters to most proper fans because usually fans understand what it is to be a supporter. You go to somewhere like newcastle where every single fan is wearing the team's shirt or pompey where the crowd don't stop singing even if they're 5-0 down.
Being a real fan is usually about following a fairly local team so that you can actually 'support' them.
That's why most proper mancs support man city.
What link to manchester united do most of their uk fans have? Nothing but the love for being a glory hunter or perhaps an open day visit to manchester university 18 years after first supporting them.
Look at the typical united fan on this forum - someone like bedi. Travels all over the uk to play donkaments but bet I've been to see more games at stamford bridge by the time I was 8 than george has been to man utd games home or away his whole life.
That's partly why true fans resent man united. Yes their manager is remarkable and yep they've had some amazing players and history but a lot their fans don't deserve to see such success. I'm not saying the club itself doesn't deserve it.
The survey you mentioned - can't really give that any credit til I've seen a link.
The hatred thing I agree with but think this is going to come down to semantics.
As a chelsea fan I have what I'd like to think of a healthy dislike for some of our rivals. When I say 'I hate man utd' or 'I hate arsenal' etc I don't literally mean hate. I think the same is true for 95% of football fans and people in general who throw the word hate around far too easily.
Pretty funny how you're comparing my travelling to play poker with the travelling to see my football team. Where do you draw the line Cos. should I be supporting Delhi rovers cos my dad is from India? Shoudl you be a Greece fan or an England fan?
I travel to play poker to make money. I am not in some major pursuit of glory. I have 6 mouths to feed and sometimes that takes me out on the road. Preferably it wouldn't tbh but sometimes needs must. OFC I get some sort of personal pleasure out of the trips but ultimately I'm trying to make money. Me travelling to watch United is not going to put food on the table.
I find your post about me supporting my team judgemental and condescending. Not qualities I would have associated with you but w/e

I hate just brown-nosing for no reason but I couldn't think any more of you as a guy george. I think you know how much I respect and <3 you. Honest.
I didn't mean for you to take offence - I just used you as an example because to me you tipify the manchester united fan.

Tom!
This may well be the first - & last - time I'll ever get the better of you in verbal jousting, so I'm going to enjoy this unique opportunity, & wring every ounce of pleasure from it. Please pardon my evident satisfaction.
I agree, your Diary is a better
destination.
But in all things, most especially life in general - what matters, where the pleasure comes from, is not so much the
destination
, as the
journey
.
1-0, by KO, 5 seconds into the first round. All agreed? Yeah, thought so.
By way of a little contrition on my part, however, here's an example of a wonderful journey.....

Ahem, who do you think YOU are Greeky - Kinboshi?
This is a refined Diary, & you are in charge of monitoring the interwebs, so let's get it right.
It's
typify
, please. Tipify indeed. With spelling like that, you'd be beter off on Tom's place. Nobody would notice it there.
PS - what does ">3 you" mean, please?

Typing quickly on a blackberry.
Would have taken more care if posting on my superior and more cultured diary where we don't talk about trains and cement.
I would apologise but I was trying to get you a few more views. Not long before me and that alex chap overtake you.
