Would be funny if I actually had a power to delete posts (which I should have imo).

Quite curious to know where, & on whom, you would start........

I studiously avoid reading Posts by some Members (& they, mine, I'm quite sure), I can almost predict the banality & content, never original, whereas I avidly search out every single Post of some Members - let us use AndrewT as a neutral example of the latter.

Each to their own & everything.

Going to a football match>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Watching it on tv.

Tikay is going to be delighted when he reads this on his diary!

The football content? Not at all, I love football with a passion, I just can't be engaging in "hahaha fu** Manchester" nonsense.

I was, in fact, quite pleased with myself. Suggesting the Diary may become moribund for a few days, but leaving a teasy football Post was quite clever I thought. And worked a treat.

Thing is I see so much "behind" inteviews with, say, Harry Redknapp. I watched him as  player in the best West Ham Team I can recall, with his mate Frank Lampard. What proud Dads both Harry & Frank must be! (Chirp alert - I sat next to Jamie Redknapp in the Staff Restaurant earlier this week, but never even recognized him, bugger).

And Sr Alex - you can NEVER second-guess what he might say. But he's walked the walk, so commands respect.

Moyes - I was still a punter when he was Preston Manager, & he stood out a mile as sharp, & intelligent, & given the constraints, he has worked miracles @ Everton. Love to listen to him, what's not to like about listening to high IQ peeps?

Big Sam - well the Newcastle thing, we'll never know, but I incline to the view that he is nowhere as good as he thinks he is.

And so on, I get pleasure from almost anything in the Premiership, the whole thing is a class act, except for the prima donna stuff & cheating by many of the players.

If I ever take up punting on football again - I'm really keen to learn how to "work" Betfair - I'd invest in the OPTA stats too, which are seriously pricey. For now, I get them from "The Game", in The Times, every Monday.

More on football soon. Maybe.

Methusaleh - your little one-liners, masterclasses in brevity, on the merits of Arsenal FC, are always welcome here, where they will be appreciated. I even love your Twets.

OK. Here's the rest of the story.

Phoenix was on her way to Pearl Harbor for overhaul when Japan surrendered, and she was reduced to reserve status on Feb. 28, 1946. On July 3 of that year, USS Phoenix was decommissioned.

Luck followed her there, too. Avoiding the scrapyard, the Phoenix was sold to Argentina in 1951. In that nation’s navy, she was called first the Diecisiete de Octubre (October 17) and then the General Belgrano, in honor of General Manuel Belgrano, who had fought for Argentine independence from 1811 to 1819.

It was as the General Belgrano that the ship’s luck finally ran out. On May 2, 1982, she was torpedoed and sunk by the British submarine HMS Conqueror during the Falklands War. She remains the only ship ever sunk by a nuclear-powered submarine.

Tom - GREAT timing, there is an almost spooky twist to that tale in today's news, this is like a game of "Connect". This was reported on the wireless today......

EDIT - If you can catch the actual Interview between Ms Gould & Lady T, do - it's a classic.

Going to make it my mission to try and track down the interview this week-end.  I'm not for or against Mrs. T, but I think it's brilliant that some random woman wasn't bothered by formalities or status and stuck to what she believed in.

Hmmmm   She didn't get much of a chance to say anything really.  From an outsider's point of view, Mrs. T basically owned her in the debate stakes purely by rambling and refusing to let the woman get a word in.  Ms G was miles too polite for her own good there.

Thank you for posting it.

I'm so happy to be in glorious Newcastle.

<3

I had some time to kill in Newcastle once, (Admittedly it was during the summer) so I went for a good look around. It's a fascinating city, absolutely steeped in history. Find a quiet spot and you can almost hear the industry that spawned the buildings calling out to you.

Newcastle is also absolutely steeped in scantily clad girls, even during the winter.

(You don't have to find a quiet spot the hear them calling out).
