Great photo's Tony. Especially the action shots. How close were you?

Those chairs are die-cast aluminium btw. (Don't argue, I've been trained to recognise metal types since birth)

Stayed at Vdara two years ago. Its awesome and chilled. No casino in it at all just spas and cafes and a great feel. That sculpture did catch my eye. Bet Thewy likes it... Might even be one of his old canoes in that lot

Correct.

A hotel in Vegas where there are no table games, poker or slots.

If nothing else, different.

Roughly how much per night for a room, do you recall?

It was a lot but as I was taking the mrs that was the compromise. We had a 180 degree strip view suite. It was about $200+ a night iirc

Have to say I'd have said those seat edges were cast too (but I'm not arguing) ;0)

I think you'll find they aren't die-cast aluminium at all.

They are die-cast aluminum.

I caught something on Radio 4 when travelling over the weekend Tony and then saw a news report today about the plane crash in San Francisco and I don't think I could find a better example of the good and bad of news/journalism than these.

The second one was this from a San Fran news station

The first one was from Clive James, who I remember as a quite loud TV presenter but who now finds himself dying and reflecting on aspects of his life. I found this both fascinating and sad, you can feel the guilt inside him that he is trying to convey now he realises it is too late. Go to around  24.25 on this week's Pick of the week, tho the whole show is a really good listen if you have the time. The James piece was part of a fuller interview broadcast last week.

Thanks for the links Phil.

I always liked Clive James's writing. I first learned of his illness in a magazine piece he did a few months ago.

Poignant stuff.

I felt lucky to have heard it Tom, we flicked on the radio in the car and it was programmed to Radio 4 as I had been listening to a little cricket earlier, so just left it on and listened to the show. It made me realise how good radio is, I mean you could read the transcript of that interview and James reading his poem but his struggling for breath and the feeling he showed just wouldn't come across.

I really dislike the way that news is used these days, A kind of excuse to provide entertainment 24 hours a day and maybe that is one of the reasons that a reputable news station can broadcast the supposed names of 4 pilots in a serious crash without first making sure they are correct and secondly not seeing what they were broadcasting. Fine if it is rolling sports non news on SSN but now real, serious news is treated the same way. Almost like episodes in soap opera's or fictional drama in some cases

I've vowed to buy myself a good radio for my office and instead of hours of background noise from bad sports news channels and the same 30 minute news with a different tint on the news channels I am going to listen to so much more interesting things. That Pick of the week link featured some really interesting stuff about Shirley Williams, cricket and covered a fear of sabotage to the Olympic opening ceremony. All really interesting stuff.
