Seems to be quite a bit of film chatter in the thread at the mo, (sigh...) & it reminds me of the demise of Robin Williams again.
Barry Norman, who enjoyed much success with the "Film" programmes on BBC back in the days before Rossy took over, wrote quite a strong piece about Robin.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/film-news/11041606/Robin-Williams-was-addicted-to-tooth-rotting-sentimentality-says-Barry-Norman.html
Includes....
“....If we forgive the bad films he is a great loss.”
"...talent was “spread so thinly as to be almost invisible...”".
".....every actor makes bad films occasionally but what was remarkable about Williams was not that he was so good in the good ones but that he was so very bad in the bad ones.”
I actually like the notion that just because someone has died, we should not feel obliged to just say nice things, & ignore the warts. I have no idea if Robin was an exceptional talent, though I do know I found him a brilliant comedian & Talk Show guest.
I do think though, that there is a time & a place, & a few week's grace is right & proper, & respectful, before we examine the warts.
I didn't realise how much of Robin William's stuff I loved until I started seeing all the tributes. This one is both poignant and hilarious, especially as it was very recent. If you don't know, Louis
is the funniest man in the world, and this felt like a passing of the torch from Williams to him. Both men are playing themselves:

Intrigued by the google pre-emptive thing, I researched further. "I like" brings up all sorts.
"I like the smell of" & "I like the taste of" do bring up some particularly odd results.
How is that algorithm based? Are those pre-emptive suggestions based on number of requests?

Breathtaking, how clever is that stuff?
What WOULD we do without search engines, & especially google?
If ever a modern product changed peoples lives for the better, it is the internet, & google.

Where are those, please - EPT London?
The £1,100 ones are too pricey for me, & the cheapos are mostly Turbo, sigh.
The £330 PLO looks about the only one that sort of suits me, I'd love to play it, & probably will, unless they have all that "buy-in at one place, then walk across London & play it somewhere else" nonsense. Sod that, cba.

LOL @ Turbo 7CS
!
One of the strangest juxtapositions ever. Turbo 7CS, ffs.
Utterly ridiculous, but thats what the kids want these days, everything fast, faster, fasterer.
Guess I'm getting old.
For now, I'm living the dream, playing 40 x £5 DYM's every night, & loving poker life in the slow lane.

What a great question. You've given me the opening to tell the whole story, which will take a while, bear with me.
I'm sure everyone will be holding their breath in anticipation, but you did ask.

Visited the new flagship Foyles in Charing Cross Road yesterday.
Lost a bit of character from the old, dark, higgledy piggledy days, but much better light levels, & a load more space, overall very good.
It has 6 floors, but really it is based on mezzanine floors, rather like car parks are, so just 3 storeys really.
Good to see that even 110 years on, from when Foyles began, books, despite all the modern digital entertainment available, books remain hugely popular. I'm pretty sure the world would be a better place if X-Boxes & all those game things had never been invented. I'm quite sure everyone agrees with that.

Picked up a bunch of books, including one called
"Here, There & Everywhere
", which is a ghosted autobio of Geoff Emerick, who was the Sound Engineer for all the Beatles recordings. Like most of my age, The Beatles changed our lives, so could not wait to get started on the book. The book covers the mid-sixties, so 50 years ago.
Sentence one told us it was ghosted.....
Shadows in the dark, curtains rustling in the cool April breeze, I rolled over in bed & cast a weary eye on the clock
Marv.
Then, describing his first session with The Beatles.....
At lunchtime, Richard & I headed upstairs to the common room, where we hungrily attacked our sandwiches we had brought from home, chatting between bites.....
Get on with it!
Still, all that fluff apart, it soon turned into a very good read, with unusual insight into what we used to call The Fab Four. I've read half already. If it were not for all that ridiculous fill, I'd have finished it by now.
Well worth a read, all the same.
Not a meaty tome by any means, you could probably read it in a hard day & night.

Thanks Phil.
UKPC 6-Max - Part 1 of 937
Strangely, there was no adrenelin hangover, I guess because I was there 11 days, so they came & went.
I don't actually do anything, thats the hardest part, doing nothing for 11 days. Meet & greet, schmooze, "Front of House", it's not really work as we know it, but even so, incredibly tiring.
Was good to see so many newbies there though, who had never played "Live" before. Live & Online are very different beasts, so it's quite a shock to the system, the little things we take for granted online, like pasing in turn, &, heaven forbid, chatting, interacting, with others. I think all the newbies enjoyed it immensely though, that's the thing that matters.
blonde is quite a strange place, where we chit-chat with the "heroes" (ugh) daily, but never forget what it means to a newbie to meet, & chat, with the likes of Trickett, Channing, Willie, JP, Toby & co. It really is the experience of a lifetime to them.
I had no obligation as such to be there all 11 days, but I just felt I should. In some ways, I have a lovely job - the Office don't tell me what to do, they leave me alone to make these decisions. And I don't have "hours", I come & go pretty much as I please, but of course I treat that very responsibly, & try never to short-change them. I'm coming up to 8 years with them in a few weeks time, not bad when you consider the turnover of staff & even sites in Online Poker. I try to be the quiet one in the corner, don't make a noise, but if asked to sort something, leave it with me boys, I'll sort it. With the passage of time, they don't seek my views on too much these days, which makes me a little sad, but thats the way of life, old peeps know bugger all & are a bit of a nuisance. I always thought so, anyway, so I can't blame them for thinking the same.
Anyway, I spent 11 days there, from 10am until, usually, 1am, every day.
Consumed, on average, 10 lattes per day, but never ate there once, except for the buffet on 3 days.
Tighy was there with me for the last 6 days, what a rock he is. Think he must have fetched me 60 lattes, God bless him, he is so unselfish & hard-working.
Sometimes it felt like I was hearing a bad-beat story every hour of every day. I struggle to remain polite when someone approaches me with "I'm out, I had Aces, guess what he called me with?....."
This whole bad beat thing is amazing, why do we all feel the need to justify our exit? If we use, say, Tom as an example (he was not there, so its OK), I love him to bits, but I don't give a monkeys about his exit hand. Tom, of course, is brighter than the average bear, & I don't think I've ever heard him tell a bad-beat story, or bemoan his luck, except "against himself". Nor does he feel the need to chirp when he wins, another oddity of poker & gambling, that we all, or mostly, love to chirp, & tell people we won a Tourney, or backed a winner. Why? Yes yes, your penis is magnificent mate, best I've seen in a while. Oh yes.
Part 2 of this super-ramble follows.
First, I need to go reply to some PM's. My blonde Inbox, incidentally, contains 19,642 of them. No, really. 19,642.
