Ommy - am just in awe at your courage & fortitude.

Those who were not aware of your illness could never have guessed by your general demeanour, you are always upbeat, positive, supportive & helpful to everyone.

As you will know, Next Door we have Tomgoodun & Daggy both very ill, here we have Reece battling on, you have had quite a battle, & I know of one or two other blondes who are suffering quietly.

The word of the week springs to mind again - perspective.

Great to see the holiday pics and hear about the adventure. More than that it's fantastic to hear you having a good time. As we've heard in the last few pages , Life is short and one never knows if illness or worse is around the corner so if you have a bucket list then the time has come to start doing.

I understand your reply to my min-cash post but still think you should give that strategy some thought.  I don't know how many WSOP events Hellmuth has played but I suspect it's probably around 500. The greatest player in WSOP HISTORY HAS WON 14 !!!!!  so to talk of your final tables/ win ratio is erroneous.  IMO play the hand you are dealt , win chips if you can, PRESERVE chips and most importantly MAKE THE BEST DECISION POSSIBLE IN EVERY SITUATION.  Many top pros don't want to risk their tournament life with cards to come , if they can help it .
I know you want big results , maybe your backers do too but if you made 2 min-cashes in your WSOP events then you and they would be at about break even. Just perhaps contemplate the " playing for stacks "   " must find a spot to double up "  strategies  and see if chipping up without being at risk might have a place in the overall tournament strategies you employ.

JUST SAYING ......   AND YOU KNOW RALPH AND I BOTH CANT BE WRONG

That's not really an accurate assessment of my mindset, Simon, though perhaps I explained it badly.

For years, I hesitated to get it in for stacks until I actually hit, for fear of losing, but the problem there is that when we wait until we hit our draw, we lose our customer & waste our equity as he folds to scare cards.

In PLO8, I try, always, to play for "scoops" - scoops are what PLO8 is about. Nothing else, we want to try to hit scoops.

What I have changed is my attitude to risk - now, if I have the best of it, & can scoop, I am getting it in. My results this trip have been awful, but in most of the key hands, I would do the same again.

Yesterday was THE perfect example, & I wanted to get all the chips in on the flop. And I did.

I never knew the exact odds at the time, but I knew I was a huge favourite to scoop, so I got it in.

I have checked an Odds Calculator this morning, not because it bothered me, but simply to make the point.

My overall equity on the flop was 83%. In PLO8 Terms, that is monsta.

I was....

87% to win the high. (He was 13%).

55% to win the Low. (He was 13% to win the Low, the anomaly in numbers is because a Low is not forced to happen).

74% to scoop. (He was 6% to scoop).

Overall, my Equity on the Flop was 84%, his was 16%.

If I am not going to play for stacks in a spot like that, then I need to quit the game.

I lost the lot, but I'm 100% convinced I played the hand correctly.

It'd be nice if I could back up my confidence with some decent results, but I can't. Wink

It's just how it goes sometimes.

In the WSOP $1,500 PLO, I think it would have been really poor play not to button raise & commit (given my stack) with DS Kings. I just happened to run into DS Aces.

I've got no complaints at "run-bad", I don't do that stuff, it's just been one of those runs which require a bit of character. My backers have been magnificent, I must say. All they have had so far is reports of each event, & two mini-cashes. I'll be swerving the WSOP $3,000 PLO 6-Max though, think I'd be a bit out of my depth, & I think we've lost enough already, so at least they'll get a refund for that, too.

Thanks for replying on the Tiger Woods thread. I know he's not the nicest of chaps, but I have had so much fun watching him over the years, & it saddens me to see him struggling so, just as it did when Seve was in decline.

Staker Alert

Today is a big one, the $1,100 PLO8 Day 1b @ Venetian.

Good wifi there, so will try to update, though it does not start until 5pm Vegas, which is 1am UK.

There is a $600 Big O (5 card PLO8) @ Venetian on Tuesday, can't recall if it was on the schedule, but we'll play that.

Wednesday will be the $1,500 WSOP PLO8, & may well be the getting out stakes.

A decent run in any of these & we may yet rescue the trip.

Will almost certainly swerve the $3,000 WSOP 6-Max PLO though.

There's a PLO8 at the Nugget Tuesday too at 11am. If you run badly you could play two in the same day!

Might see you at Venetian,  I was planning a casino crawl up and down the strip playing cash sessions in as many card rooms as I can, but have had a flare up with my heel problems so might just find a decent game and sit in that

Now that's great planning. Wink

PS - If you still want to sell that $500 Lammer, I'm still a buyer. Forgot to mention it yesterday, sorry.

The next bit gets good, too - photos of locomotives, trains, & railway stations. Oh yes.

Lol, I hate to sound like a hypochondriac, (I'll have neuralgia next) but is your heel problem anything to do with plantar fasciitis Simon?

Don't take this the wrong way, but will be a bit sad when you come back to England.
Really enjoying your updates, and look forward to them each day.

Yes Tom . I had a major attack two days before flying out, was in hospital as it felt like i had broken a bone.  I was happy it was just plantar not a fracture. Ice packs and massage helps but i had been ok here until Friday,  probably sitting in a poker tourny for  longer than usual Wink

Plantar fasciitis is a proper bugger.

Ha, thanks Neil.

I'm just working on the next edition of the Pacific Adventure, should have some more up soon.

It's hard to get across how much it meant to us, & the background to some of the stuff.

Have you ever watched any films made, or set, in America? Well yes, of course you have.

Well one thing that always tells us "this is America" is the sound of train sirens in the distance, & that peculiar "ding ding ding" noise they make. It's emotive, evocative, & iconic, "this is America".  And that was all part of it.

The "ding ding ding" noise the trains make, bye the bye, is the sound made when a train goes over a Level Crossing. And the Pacific Surfliner goes over a LOT of level crossings, dozens of them.

And we were living the dream, sitting in Amtrak Business Class, "woo-woo", "ding ding ding", & watching America pass by the window. It was everything we dreamed of.

Anyway, hold up, we are getting ahead of ourselves here.

It all made me think of a Johnny Cash track. We lived that dream.

Look a-yonder comin'
Comin' down that railroad track
Hey, look a-yonder comin'
Comin' down that railroad track
It's the Orange Blossom Special
Bringin' my baby back

Well, I'm going down to Florida
And get some sand in my shoes
Or maybe Californy
And get some sand in my shoes
I'll ride that Orange Blossom Special
And lose these New York blues
"Say man, when you going back to Florida?"
"When am I goin' back to Florida? I don't know, don't reckon I ever will."
"Ain't you worried about getting your nourishment in New York?"
"Well, I don't care if I do-die-do-die-do-die-do-die."

Hey talk about a-ramblin'
She's the fastest train on the line
Talk about a-travellin'
She's the fastest train on the line
It's that Orange Blossom Special
Rollin' down the seaboard line

How can you say you're changing your attitude to risk and then want to pull out of the $3k? Fckin refund?? Urghhh!

For anybody who doesn't know, Tikay never folds to a min cash in Vegas! He spewtards chips and lives the daredevil lifestyle on stakers dime. Then when he achieves a loosey goosey image he returns to the UK and nits up in local comps. Last year first comp back he garnered several loose calls from confused oppos whilst holding the nuts and won stacks. Happens every year. I mean think about it, never had a penalty in the UK, turns into a foul mouthed rude boy in Vegas? It's the long con only the most deft and experienced old women can get through.

Let's gogogo in the $3k!!
