Handy Hints.
If you should happen to need to know what the time is right now in Venezuala, just turn your (analogue) watch upside down, & that gives you the correct time, after adding an hour for the BST adjustment.
What would you do without me?
Not reading incorrect factoids methinks
Someone's been pulling your leg (probably to see if you read the 'fact' out on TV).
Lettter in The Times, Saturday 15th December.
"Sir,
The President of Venezuala has done me & others who deal with Venezuala from the UK a great favour.
By setting the nations clocks back 30 minutes, he has made Venezualan time five & a half hours behind BST. So over the summer I will be able to see the time in Venezuala simply by turning my watch upside down.
Yours,
John Thirtle,
London N4"
Mr Thirtle, who is "The Times" equivelant of Mrs Trellis from North Wales (Mrs Trellis of "I'm sorry, I havent a Clue" fame) is rarely wrong in matters of such gravity.
I demand a retraction, failing which I shall instruct my solicitors to, err, do something. Could even be a stiff letter.
Ah- recent adjustment - he's very close to right - close enough that I retract my previous statement

I think that if you ignore the minute hand and just lookat the hour hand Mr Thirtle is indeed correct....

No, the minute hand's correct, but the hour had lands half an hour before the actual time
IE at 3:30 here it was 11:00 in venezuela , the minute hand is correctly pointing straight up when you turn the watch upside down, but the hour hand is half way between the numbers - you should add 1.5 hours to the hour hand to get the right time.
BTW - if you are in India the same trick works to get to GMT ie they are 5.5 hours ahead.

Dolphins not only do that - they only sleep with half their brain at a time (to avoid the whole drowning thing).

I'm not sure I'm gonna buy that.
But did you know that the Orca (a species of dolphin commonly known as a "killer whale") has a gestation period of 17 months? Now that IS true.

One of DTD's innovations is the ability to buy in for Live Tourneys via their Online Cardroom. Such a good idea, & so simple, it's one of those things that make you think why has nobody else offered it?
Now, "regular" Corporate Casinos are never gonna match DTD's fayre in many ways, nor should we expect them to, they are accountable to their shareholders & cannot possibly countenance running an operation at a loss, which may be the case at DTD for a goodly while. DTD will co-exist with the Chains, & that's a good thing, Live poker will continue to be offered &, we hope, thrive, across the UK. But there's bound to be some cross-migration of ideas, & this buying in Online malarky is a stonker.
To do it, a Casino needs a relationship with an Online Cardroom. Grosvenor & Gala both have this. So let's hope they take this idea on board, it's an idea who's time has come. It's cost-effective for all, too, as Online is almost nil-labour cost.
Time for a letter to Grosvenor & Gala, methinks.

As I wandered into G-Luton the other night, I was astonished to see a flyer/CD thingy, announcing that Grosvenor have started an Online Card-Room.
How odd! They - or their Parent Company, Rank, already own Blue Square, & work very closely together, as you know. One must assume that the Grosvenor Cardroom is a skin of Blue Square.
So now they have to spread their marketing cost against two sites in the same ownership, & which will compete with each other. How does that make sense? Unless, of course, Rank have plans to divest themselves of either Grosvenor or Blue Square in the near future.......
Watch this space.

You'll find a large percentage perched on front lawns in Parma, Ohio...just 25 minutes down the road from my home place, ffs. Looking back, pretty sure that was a contributing factor when moving out. lol

It's been around for months, they are spending nothing on marketing outside of the casino, it is a skin of blue square.
Stop watching this space.

Mentioning the new Grosvenor Online Cardroom reminded me of another new Online Cardroom that's just started up - odd these start ups, because the Market has gotten extremely competitive recently, & it's a bit of a struggle to make a decent return, or find a useful USP.
The latest offering is called Pokertrillion or somesuch, & is the brainchild of Achilleas Kalakkis & Robert Cooper. They can afford it, I imagine..... Their "USP" is to offer cut-price buy-ins ("subsidised" they call it) for Live Events. Hardly unique, & really, it's just Rakeback under another name, but knowing those two, they'll make it work. I know they have access to a massive Online Database via one of their existing Companies. They are on the Boss Media network, which may make their initiative something of a challenge ahgainst the odds, but anyway, good luck to them.
Day to day management is by Andy Pyrah, late of Matchroom, the PPA, & Harrahs. Andy is a bit of a whizzkid, & he'd be an asset to any Company. Alongside him is a guy who's name I've forgotten, but I believe it's "Old king Cole" on most fora & Sites.
Ed Giddens, my stablemate at Sky Poker, was involved early doors, but I understand he's no longer with them.
Meanwhile, Sky Poker goes from strength to strength. I believe that now, after less than a year, it's the 4th largest UK based Online Cardroom now, & is seriously profitable, even after paying for the TV Show costs. And it does not offer Rakeback! How neat is that? That's what comes from having marketing muscle, & nous. But they don't do "stand still", & if they ever decide to go up-market & attack the "poker serious" market, well, all Online Rooms will know they've been in a fight. Sky don't do lose.
We at blonde will stay in our little niche, not fight fire with fire, & carve our own little path. We'll be OK, there's always room for a little 'un.
