I saw a play some time ago called Art

"The comedy, which raises questions about art and friendship, concerns three long-time friends, Serge, Marc, and Yvan. Serge, indulging his penchant for modern art, buys a large, expensive, completely white painting. Marc is horrified, and their relationship suffers considerable strain as a result of their differing opinions about what constitutes "art". Yvan, caught in the middle of the conflict, tries to please and mollify both of them."

Apart from the comedic and personal aspects to it, it was obviously quite a long narrative about what constitutes 'art' and what doesn't. But I can't remember specifically any of the arguments used, so I can't really help the debate here.

If it ever gets a new run I would recommend it ... although obviously not for Tikay

Can I just say how impressed I am by the way that post was presented.

Concise, informative, in fact almost Karabineresqe. The ability to write like that is such a talent.

It's the 'cultured thread' - it encourages people to raise their game

Superb Tom.

Incidently I love the later work of Van Gogh, the impressionist stuff. His early painting such as potato eaters etc I find a bit dour. Monet is also a fave of mine, I just love the colours and vibrance of the impressionists. Very risky stuff in it's day. As for Banks he's just brilliant, he can put some of his art on my walls any day, my house price would rocket.

Did you see any of the two series presented by John Myatt? He was convicted of forging masterpieces and selling them. In the first one he had celebrity guests who he had painting famous pieces in their own style and he did the same. In the second he had celebs posing as subjects in famous portraits and he painted them in the artists style with the faces replaced by that of the celebs.

Joo commented that she would love to sit for a portrait. I assume this would be expensive so I've done the next best thing and had an oil on canvas portrait done for her birthday on Monday. I have an email attachment and it looks great. It arrives tomorrow.

I was wandering through the museum in Vienna when I saw this picture and a sign beside it saying "Adoration of the Magi".  Hmmm I said to myself what could it mean?  Are the birds vultures round the baby Jesus?  Whats that all about.  I looked up deep in thought to see the 15th century painting that was quite unambiguosly the subject of the sign and decided to get my coat.

Is it a photo to canvass job ? Mad skills if it has been painted free hand.
