Thanks Tom,

I've many films from the last few days, annoyingly most were taken with my main camera (Lumix) then uploaded to MAC. Uploading them to youtube from the MAC takes forever and I need to find time to upload.

The vid above was taken on my phone (Samsung ) and I can load direct from there to youtube in the matter of minutes. Phones really are so good these days

The Dipper vid is my favourite, knowing how lucky I got after hours of patience

We got brief footage of the mum with 2 cubs the other night and we have located their Den which is under a neighbours shed. The neighbour tells us that unfortunately they found one of the cubs dead in their garden.

We regularly see 2 other adult foxes which we think are both male, do you think one of them may be responsible?

We have seen her with one of the males and on another occasion she bolted quite quickly when the other male appeared. That male has a severe face injury, basically the right side of it's top lip torn off and you can see right to the bone. We have spoken to SSPCA and provided pics and they are concerned that infection could lead to a slow death and will visit us to try to see for themselves.

At some point recently I seem to have become old as I'm now for the very first time using the bird table my FIL put up when we moved in 18 years ago. Now have finches, pigeons, robins, woodpeckers, nuthatches etc. dropping in frequently. Had a crow trying to fly/hover/hang on to one of the feeders this morning.

We live next to a small wood and a couple of squirrels have been entertaining us. How they managed to unscrew the peanut feeder, I've no idea. Our Westie now sits at the back door and takes off like a missile when a squirrel appears, has given him a new lease of life. Just need to teach him how to scale and run along a 6' fence...

Hi Geo.

I loved my Lumix camera but unfortunately I managed to break it so I'm reduced to a small compact for the moment.

All my vids take forever to upload, but that's village WiFi for you.

AFAIK foxes mate for life so I don't think another male killed that cub.

Hey Tom

Watched this programme on BBC NI last night and I thought it would be something you might like - documentary about road bowls in Ireland.

Yo Dog
Pretty much every year in the place I live a field or 2 pop up full of poppies. Rarely in the same field in consecutive years. This year it even made BBC news as loads of people ore visiting to take photos.
This field is about 500m from my house.

Now then Bobble hat. Poppies produce loads of seeds but they just lie fallow in the soil for years.
The thing is, they like ground that has been disturbed, so they wait and they wait until conditions are just right and then BOOM! They pounce.

Great pics BTW.

Last week my son and I were working in the back garden when we heard a bit of a commotion in one of the neighbours gardens. On investigation we found one of the wifes i a bit of distress and pointing underneath the shed where the foxes seemed to have their den.

On looking we could see a cub dragging both back legs, it took us a wee while to get him out and unfortunately as well as the legs looking bust he had a puncture wound in his side. We took him uo to the SSPCA who called us after they had a vet look at him but the wee soul didn't make it.

Mrs Geo was quite distressed as a couple of days earlier we had been informed that another cub had been found dead in one of the adjoining gardens. We had only ever seen 2 cubs and for the past few nights Mrs Geo has sat in the garden awaiting the Vixen and when she has appeared for the food we put out for her she would commiserate with her and I think she felt a wee bit of guilt as we hadn't been able to save the second cub.

Got back from playing golf earlier and went down to put some food out as we do each evening. The mother was in the garden and after we pit some food out and retreated to a distance she is comfortable with us being she started gathering the food and heading in a different direction that she would normally, returning every couple of minutes to gather more.

I decided to do a recce:

Mrs Geo is happy again

Great pics Geo - not lost your stealth skillz - I bet the golf is still not too shabby either.

Great stuff Geo. In another life you might have made a career out of wildlife photography, you seem to have the required traits. Stealth, patience, and determination.

The wife laughed at that. I have become a very impatient man with everyday life things, so much so I've stepped away from working for a while now as I was becoming so frustrated. I do however find it easy to maintain patience for this sort of thing, I find a kind of inner calmness whenever I'm on "the hunt." I can spend hours on end waiting, sometimes with little end result and it matters not a jot.

Put me amongst a group of dithering know - it - alls in the work environment and I can completely lose it.
