How could anyone think selling that at 50p is a good idea? I am totally baffled.

Me too.
I would have had to ask, "Why are you selling me £2 for 50p?"
Mrs Red isn't that curious.

For best results, buy one set, then take one of the coins out and see if you can buy another set.

They are worth more than £2

It’s not quite the best car boot buy ever though

Blimey!
I wonder who would pay a tenner (equivalent of £30 today) for a bit of second hand costume jewellery on a car boot though?
I think someone knew something.

Science/nature question for those kind of bods who seem to read this thread.
The weather forecast provides a number to indicate the strength of UV rays. It is at its highest at about 1pm, which is logical but the strength isn't symmetrical - it is 11 at 1300* but 8 at 1200 and 10 at 1400, 6 at 1100 but 9 at 1500. So skewed to the afternoon. It is obv hotter in the afternoon, but that shouldn't affect the UV strength. The only thing I can think is that the forecast is assuming that thin cloud is burnt off, but the same skewing is shown every day, so that seems unlikely.

Where are you looking?
This one from London looks fairly symmetrical on all 5 days to me.
https://www.theweathernetwork.com/uk/forecasts/uv/greater-london/london
But if I look at Manchester, I get a sudden drop in the afternoon, presumably as some rain is expected?
https://www.theweathernetwork.com/uk/forecasts/uv/north-west-england/manchester
So I assume it is all down to local weather patterns? Or maybe it is just duff forecasting wherever you are looking at this info?
I am new to this, as I didn't even realise you could get hourly UV forecasts up until 10 minutes ago.

Is it symmetrical around a different midpoint? The solar noon during daylight saving hours is offset by an hour compared to non daylight saving periods.

What an elegant theory. I hope it's right. And I hope it rains wherever Dave is.

here it is - they only go hour by hour for a couple of days but it's still apparent then
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/esupeen9c#?date=2019-05-09
@longines I don't think that's the reason as the high is 1300 and the asymmetry is around that.

seems to be a local phenomenon so I'm guessing that it is due to UV being reflected off the sea.

Here's another sciency thing.
I just watched a TV prog about forensic evidence. One of the things discussed was the reliability of fingerprint analysis.
A wpc was accused of entering a building that was designated as a crime scene, she denied doing so but one of her fingerprints was found on a door jamb. The print was labeled as exhibit Y7.
The accused wpc vehemently denied that the print was hers, and the police had to decide whether to accept her word or that of the fingerprint expert.
They decided upon the latter and the wpc was sacked and lost her pension.
14 years later it was proved that the print on the door jamb was actually two overlapping prints and that neither belonged to the wpc.
I Googled fingerprint Y7 and found this.
