OK, please clarify this one then?

"in reality if there is no space then there is no time, they are not seperable so time could not exist 'before' the big bang"

Why is there no time when there is no space?

because where you gonna put your watch?

I think it's a a great debate, this subject really fascinates me, but I don't really have the mental agility to deal with it properly, some of the concepts are way beyond me.

Never the less, I'm enjoying it.

So if you were in a spaceship travelling at the speed of light, and you switched your lights on, what would happen?

That statement depends on which definition of time you use

You can't travel at the speed of light in a spaceship.

Aww! Why not?

Anything with a mass would need an infinite amount of energy to accelerate to the speed of light.  This would also mean that the object would have to have infinite mass as well.

How do you know that though? Space = no resistance, so even with a small motor, a spaceship would just continue to accelerate until it reached the speed of light, no?

No.

As an object increases in speed, its mass also increases.  As you approach the speed of light, the mass would continue to grow and therefore the energy required to accelerate the object would increase - and to actually reach the speed of light you'd need an infinite amount of energy and the object would have an infinite mass.  Which is obviously impossible.

If the 'object' had no mass, like a photon, then it can travel at the speed of light.
