Also had to look up a dish that I've never heard of, "Zee Dee". (I bet Ralph knows what it is)
Sorry Tom, Zee-Dee has me completely snookered behind the eight-ball and angled to boot.
Zelly says you're a lightweight Ralph.
In that case I won't tell her about my new favourite Asda product, Rhubarb Biopot Yoghurt then

Most days, I have to look a word up. Today's word was matriculation.
Does anyone actually know that one without looking?
Not a clue, I'll add it to the list of unknown words you've taught me lol

Like gatso says, usually heard when you're joining a university - presumably the matr- is literally to do with 'mothers' - as also in the idea of an 'alma mater' as a school/university (?)

Here's Wiki's definition.
Matriculation, in the broadest sense, means to be registered or added to a list, from the Latin matricula - little list. In Scottish heraldry, for instance, a matriculation is a registration of armorial bearings. The most common meaning, however, refers to the formal process of entering a university, or of becoming eligible to enter by acquiring the meeting prerequisites.

So graduating from high school was pretty much correct.

I'll tell you what I just found out, which I find pretty shocking. You know those fund raisers who come up to you in the street and ask you to donate say, £2pw to a charity? Well the money for the first year goes to pay the fund raiser, so if you only pay for a year, the charity gets nothing.
Charities use these firms because they say people stay on for more than a year, sometimes several years, so it's +EV, but I don't think it's fair on the people who want to support the charity.

I've just been trying to work out why the text suddenly looks different on blonde, it's gone all sort of big and bold.
After ten minutes playing with the settings, I realised that I have my glasses on.

Also, on these forms is a tick box if you wish to opt out of them passing your details to other third parties. Many people don't tick the box and the firms sell off these details to other companies who start spamming you through post, text and email, this money does not go to the charities either.
Each last Friday of the month our company has a dress down charity day. Everyone gets to turn up in scruff order and donates a £1 to the chosen charity for that month. Colleagues apply for a monthly slot and choose a charity for that months donations.
My wife and I had last weeks slot and we collected for the Mark Wright Project near Edinburgh. They are a drop-in and rehabilitation centre for veterans. Deal with combat stress, PTSD and is the only centre in the UK which also covers families and bereavement counselling.
We visited earlier in the week and were talking to the staff regards how they are funded. It's all through public donations, we asked whether they get support from Help for Heroes and they just laughed.
They explained that Help for Heroes donations are only used for serving forces members and a lot of the funds actually go to help fund MOD sponsored projects.
Once a service person leaves they are not covered by aid from HFH. A lot of projects for ex serviceman are now finding it increasingly difficult to raise the level of funding required as most people believe they are subsidised by HFH.

Blimey!
I was at a conference the other day, over a 100 delegates there, all being looked after very nicely tyvm.
It was part of my job that day to demonstrate (provide evidence etc) that a lot of Gypsies joined up and fought for their country during both world wars.
Seeing as we were on a service men and women theme, I went around the room during the lunch break with our "Help for Heroes" collection tin and people donated a goodly amount.
There needs to be a lot more transparency where charities are concerned.

Agree Tom, not saying we shouldn't be donating to HFH, however as you say, it could be more transparent.
I actually find it more annoying that any service person having to leave the forces due to injuries etc suffered are no longer under the umbrella of the MOD and their projects and have to rely on projects such as Mark Wright, Erskine and The Haig foundation.

Charity is big business these days:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justgiving
Founded 2000
Collected £450m: deducted 5% in fees (£22.5m) which they say they re-invest in their service???
not a bad gig...
