Tom, if you're on expenses then this may be moot but if not....

Leicester - London return: £129 anytime, £73 offpeak, £55 super offpeak. The latter two are really restrictive on what time you can leave London.

Harborough - London return: £42 super offpeak Travelcard including tube, £45 offpeak Travelcard. Neither ticket has a restriction on when you can leave London.

Parking is cheaper at Harborough too.

If you still want to travel from Leicester, choose a train that stops at Harborough and buy two tickets at Leicester: a Leicester<>Harborough return and one of the Harborough<>London tickets. You can then get on any train coming home (as long as it stops at Harborough) - split ticketing ftw...

I do get my expenses, but we don't have a a lot in our coffers and are always careful with our conkers, so no fancy shmancy travel or business lunches for me.

I usually go Hinckley via Leicester to London ST Pancras. Last time cost me £49 return, but I got finished at 16:30, and had to wait until 20:00 to catch the cheap train home.

I made the best of the wait though, went to the Librairy.

The British Library is totally stunning. I could easily spend several years in there.

Apart from the awsome obvious stuff, they have about half a dozen excellent exhibitions running at any one time.

They had an entire room just dedicated to Samuel Taylor Coleridge's epic poem, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" I spent at least an hour and a half just admiring the effortless way the words just seem to flow together to weave the story.

BTW-  They do a great latte.

Don't forget to explore St Pancras Station, or, as it is now known, St Pancras International. It was opened, incredibly, in 1868, & the original Barlow Train Shed, & the spectacular ironwork which supports it, remains to this day, despite the recent renovation.

The ironwork was made in Derbyshire, by the Butterley Iron Company, which, sadly, passed into receivership & then liquidation a year or two ago. A commemorative plate to "The Butterley Iron Company" is on the St Pancras concourse.

The Station has a most peculiar construction, built on an an undercroft, which had lain unused for over a century, since the days when barrels of beer from Burton upon Trent were stored there. In the recent renovation, I think that was opened up to become a Shopping Mall. Ugh.

Worth a good look round, it's one of the finest working buildings in the world, imo, & has been in unbroken service for 140 years.

If you know what time you're getting your trains, you can get two advanced singles for less than a cheap return.

I go from Nottingham to St Pancras and it's £22 there (09:28) and £19 on the way back (20:15).  You also get reserved seats which can be a bonus when it's busy, or if you want a table for your lappy, etc.

I'm thinking about going on a diet myself. If I do my method that I've tried and tested and it worked well last time is similar to yours and tikay's. I bought some new clothes yesterday and when trying them on with a full length mirror I was not too pleased to see how fat I am. I got weighed and I'm currently 16st 4lbs and my bmi is 30.4. I think with dieting you have to really be committed to it as with anything really if your going to succeed and I don't think I'm bothered about it enough at the minute to lose the weight like you have. My biggest problem is I'm not going to quit the drink, obviously, and that plays a pretty big part in why I'm overweight. Hmm, next time we meet at DTD you'll prob be in top shape and I'll be chugging around at 20st, wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.

Will you be playing any of the UKIPT events at DTD next month ?
