Good to see you're back on track after the "no scales" weakness. WP for making day two at DTD and GL GL. I'm off to play the Stoke £150, comp dinner you know.

There's a lot of cable theft from railway tracks of late - the price of copper has gone through the roof.
Was an incident of it on the Tube in London a couple of days ago.
That was near me, goddam thieves, thank goodness I never try and get the train! They've been breaking into telephone exchanges and breaking the internet too!

Cable theft is very common. We have many cancellations due to it on a regular basis. It's like the amount of fatalities too. Just not something that the public hears about unless it actually affects the train line you are travelling on obv.

With all the rain we also had a landslide yesterday which derailed one of ours. Luckily no one got injured but causes chaos for travellers.

I had some time to kill this morning waiting for someone so sat with a coffee in the window of starbucks on oxford street next to a couple of policeman listening to their conversation. it went something like this
'so you've had 2 pulls today right?' 'yeah' 'I'll have the next 2 then' 'ok, we'll try and keep it fairly even'
then they spotted a couple of young women crossing the road towards us
'here come some gypsies' 'looks like a couple of pulls' *finishing drink* 'shall we go and say hello?'
and they popped on their helmets and went outside to stop the girls

I remember when the copper piping was stolen from the roof of DTD (from the air-con), I remember some people mentioning 'Gypsies' when the theft was being discussed (not DTD staff, just people at DTD talking about it).
When I lived in Tamworth, BT were doing some work and had left a reel of copper cable overnight that was stolen (the thieves had used an industrial cutter to cut the cable and this had 'agitated' the gas tank that was there, which in turn meant we all had to evacuate our houses for 2 days), the blame for that was placed on the 'travellers' who were in the area.
Seems that copper theft = Gypsies

I think that scrap metal dealing is quite a common thing among the Gypsy community - pretty sure Tom has said he did it back in the day, so it's not that much of a jump if you assume Gypsies are up to no good to link them to copper wire going missing.

A lad who i drink with runs a demo firm, one night he` s in the pub saying how some Gypsies have been in to the mill he`s knocking down and stripped the entire building of 3 phase cable in one night leaving only the sheaths behind. So i ask him why he thinks it was Gypsies that did it, "cos it woulda taken my lads a week" he said.
