I'll save the wood Guy, my son-in-law repairs carts & drays etc, he's always looking for a nice bit of seasoned wood.

Im sure the amounts people try to charge would make your eyes pop out!

Charge for what Guy, the property repairs?

BTW- I was considering learning paintless dent removal. (it just looks like something I could do) Do you know anything about it i.e. cost, is the market saturated etc.....

The charging - yes property repairs - I only deal with this aspect - not the cars.

I guess with all walks of life people see "insurance job" and double their prices, but my favourites are the ones who really go to town (they obvioulsy make my job of "adjusting" very easy - but it can lead to very uncomfortable conversations when negotiating the costs back to their level).

conversation from today (damaged dry stone wall)

me "well, ok lets say I accept the rates for the wall rebuild, what about these pavement costs?"

Bloke "I thnk they are reasonable, I kept those costs to a minimum"

yes " yes sir, but Ive studied all 20 photos sent to me and there is no pavement to be seen"

bloke "oh , ok well we better take those out then"

me *lol*

Your fence post is the typical small claim that I occasionally get to deal with

As for dent removal - its not something I deal with too much. Im not sure what the training costs would be, or the capital for the kit, but it strikes me that if you could become known as "the local guy who fixes small dents" and get recommends from all the local garages, it could easily be a winner. It would be simple for you to be much cheaper than the competition.

The only dent removal I have ever dealt with is for cladding panels, and although the guys I use arent cheap they are simply miracle workers

I would have charged £150 for replacing that post, including materials. Would you have adjusted that?

def not - id expect the original claim to be £550 if it came from a contractor - £400 from someone like yourself or a farmer

I am always fair when I adjust, but I hate it when you know people are just "at it"

what annoys me more is when my "gut feel" tells me its high, but i cant find the adjustable factor - those claims are frustrating

I get it now. You only do the property side of the vehicle impact claims. Right?

I'm a bit slow sometimes.

I've used my local one a couple of times. Cost was ~£250 and he was onsite for roughly 4 hours IIRC. I've seen at least 3 different vans around here all with very local phone numbers - saturation could well be an issue.

Think Girgy was gleefully talking about the cuckoo he heard the other morning. Might have been on facebook?

My parents just had a weekend break in Hunstanton - Mum said she was woken by a cuckoo that sounded like it was just outside their window. Said it was the first they'd heard, and they're reasonably keen twitchers these days.

Apparently went to see some Avocets as well. I had to Google.

I've managed to separate the things that do really matter from those that don't.

The don't pile is huge, but the do pile is tiny.   Smiley

BTW- If that smile of yours gets any wider, you're gonna need a bigger head.
