Great photos.

It's interesting how the Boston Globe describes the photos in the past tense.  I wonder if that's an American thing, or just something that the paper does, but we'd usually expect the description to be in the present tense - as the action in the photo was happening when the image was captured.  For example, picture 23 the caption reads:

"A girl rested on a concrete column at the Holocaust memorial in Berlin."

I'd expect:

"A girl rests on a concrete column at the Holocaust memorial in Berlin."

Just me?

(the caption for photo 35 is written in the present tense, and to me reads a lot better than the others)

I assume in that example, rested is being used as an adjective.

Boston.com is the nuts for photos. Check out their 'Big Picture', you will not regret it.

Amazing fact.

75% of all the heather in the world grows in Britain.

almost unbelievable

"gatterssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss"

I'll have a crack because this does sound like BS

I have no hard evidence but my hunch is that this stat is referring to what we'd recognise as heather rather than the entire heather family which according to wikipedia surprisingly includes blueberry, cranberry, azalea, huckleberry and rhododendron

though even if it's just referring to common heather it still kinda sounds made up tbh

I'm claiming victory here on the grounds of wishy washy refutation.

Wrong assumption. Simply look at the captions for all the other photos in that collection. Only one is in the present tense, the others are all in the past tense.
