It's a Sharnford to South Anston round trip so some hills but nothing major.
With diligent route planning we might be able to do it in 140 miles.
What price is Ben to win it?
He's 2/1 V me in the last longer.

Just seen my first ever Tawny Owl. Swooped and landed on corner of guttering right outside my bedroom window. Quickly ran out and got the kittens in just in case it went for them. Would they do that?!
I think it was after a bat which is now circling the garden. All go here!

I know Tawny owls take young rabbits so I suspect they just might take a very small kitten. (Which I suppose would be a kind of poetic justice).

Yes. I watch all that stuff. 'How it's made' 'How it works' 'How do they do that' etc. They're always running on the Discovery channels.
Excellent programming. My televisual cup runneth over.

Only in as much as my head was in the chip-shop. (Along with the rest of my body).
It's a momentary lapse, a blip, a mere bagatelle.

So I'm in Welsh Wales for a couple of days. Brynmawr, Merthyr Tydfil, Bargoed, (and Aberbargoed) The Rhonda valley...
What scenery they have here. Stunning is an overused word on my diary, but where nature is concerned, I'm prone to stunnage. (Look you, isn't it Boyo?)
I slept in my van last night, somewhere in Newport next to the biggest, most sprawling graveyard I've ever seen, and I was awakened at about 6am by a cacophony of sound from a few hundred of it's more vocal, (and feathery) residents.
It was a lovely morning, so I went for a stroll amongst the departed.
I've never seen anything like it. It was a vast green oasis of peace and beauty with acres of grass and enormous mature trees everywhere. The graves faced every which way, higgledy piggledy fashion, with a load of space between them.
Some were very old, some were quite new, all mixed together. I spent ages reading the inscriptions.
What a great place to spend eternity.

If you are in or around Merthyr, Tom, do please try & spend some time in the Brecon Beacons. A very odd piece of land, very beautiful in a rugged kind of way. I think the Army have a Training Camp up there, endurance training, that sort of stuff.
The upper slopes are a strange yellow/sandstone hue, & large tracts are without trees, but I would think there would be wildlife galore there.
Enjoy.

These days instead of a sat-nav I use my phone to find my way. It has a great navigation app, but it's a bit heavy on the battery so I usually turn off the screen and just use the voice directions. (the battery lasts for ages that way).
I'm not sure exactly how it works, but when you come to a junction, a robotic female voice gives you instructions. When she speaks, it's just as if she is reading the sign posts.
"At the roundabout, take the third exit on to Lei-ces-ter Rd B114, Cov-en-try, Rug-by, Wig-ston- par-va."
This is great! (until you go to Wales).
The poor girl tried her best to pronounce the Welsh place-names, often making several attempts and trying out different pronunciations. "Llan-ga-dog, L-l-an-ga-dog Klang-a-dog..."
The real trouble was, it didn't end there. once she had done her best with the English pronunciation, she went on to attempt the Welsh one, which is also included on the signs. This was sheer folly. she had no chance. She sounded like a female Stephen Hawking high on coke, speed, and helium.
I happened to glance at the phone at a busy five-way junction and I swear to God there was saliva coming out of the speaker.

Yes. I'm familiar with Brecon Beacons, I have a sister-in-law who lives near there.
