I played my first Venetian deep stack event last year.  There was some very loud rock music played over the speakers.  It was enough to turn me into a bag of tilt by the end.  Astonishingly dumb choice of background music if their aim is to attract punters.

I can't recall it ever bothering me at DTD but know exactly where you are coming from.

On a related topic, when I was at the athletics at the Olympics they had music on while people were running for Gold medals.  Was there a person in the stadium who had paid chunks to listen to some pop tunes?  Mo Farah on target for UK gold, we need something to get the crowd going,  put some JLS on, that will do it.

I'm really glad it's not just me.

BTW- (If you don't mind me asking) What age are you? Have you entered old fartdom yet?

Probably not far off you, 46 this week.

I don't mind a lot of music in places, maybe in another 5 years.  I have always been a huge fan of music, and have shelves full of vinyl and CDs.  I have more than my fair share of music from the noisier end of the spectrum.  I just wouldn't choose to put it on when I had a tough river decision.

The music at the Olympics was very weird, it wasn't like they played a whole dong, just snippets.  You'd be sat there thinking I haven't heard this for ages, and by the time you had thought it, they had switched it off again.

Ah! 46. Those were the days....

On the subject of music, when I was in Vegas in 2005 Julian and I were going to a steak restaurant at The Palms to celebrate him winning a tournament there (surprise surprise) and the music was so loud we opted for another eaterie instead.

Yesterday, after rolling home from DTD at 4am I was up at 8:30am to do some chores, then at 1pm I went to a big fat Gypsy wedding.

By 8pm, most of the wedding guests were elephants, so I slipped quietly away and went back to DTD.

At ~ 3am they chucked me, (and everyone else) out, so I made my way to the Gala cash game and stayed there until 7am.

At 8am I crawled back into bed, almost 24 hours since I crawled out of it.

At 11:30 this morning the sound of the dog barking at a squirrel woke me and I couldn't go back to sleep.

Now we have some ladies with loud frocks and even louder voices visiting.

I'm too old for this.

If anyone is playing the Grand Prix at DTD and happen to be reading, are there any cash games going yet?

Mystery vehicle

WITNESSES have mentioned a white van before in the Madeleine case — most recently in 2010.

Carlos Moreira, 65, said he saw her lying in the back of a van near the spot where she vanished.

He told investigators he had seen a couple who looked like gypsies near the vehicle.

Tom,

Dare I ask how the d-word is going?

Of course.

I lost a stone and then for some reason I lost my focus. I've gained 2lb since I went off the rails.

Why did I fail? I think there are several reasons.

For a start, I'd reached a plateau. I was stuck at the same weight for ages. Usually I could push past this by exercising, but I've been forced to lay off that for a little while.

Secondly, I've been playing poker until dawn 5 times a week. When you're surrounded by food in those wee small hours, it's pretty hard to resist.

Third, I don't have the luxury of knowing I only have to hold out for a certain amount of time, or hit a particular target before I can go back to eating as much as I like. I want perminant change, but the thought of permanent change seems much more daunting.

In my heart of hearts, I know that these are all just lame excuses. Presently I will gird up my loins and get back on the horse.
