Morning Mr Red.

I just started to read that Holocaust thing and I had to stop. Thinking about what it was that I didn't like was that it was written in the present tense and I hated the style of it. Still at least I have found out that I don't like books written in the present tense. Do you have any past tense Holocaust things?

Speaking of being sensitive Tony, I finally won one hand (the last hand of the night) against an excellent player who had been crushing me for hours. I mucked and he asked me what I had, so I told him, truthfully.

He didn't believe me, so I said if you're not going to believe, why ask?

Obviously annoyed, he said, "Because I thought you would give me a credible answer."

It was a simple indecent, but for some reason, it really bothered me.

That sort of thing really pisses me off. Why ask if he ain't gonna believe? Is he a bit short upstairs?

Some people take defeat in poker SO badly. They've never lived, don't know what it is to take real beats in real life, & yet they get arsey over a hand of poker.

Let me just make this clear. This guy certainly isn't short upstairs, and I'm sure he doesn't take his beats badly.

I wasn't having a pop at him, I was just pointing out how some things bother me more than they should.

Ahh, my bad, I got hold of the stick at the wrong end, as per.

But the rhetorical questions are my real bugbear, I can't help wondering how bright the questioners are.

We make a bad call sometimes, EXACTLY the call the guy wants, but we get there.

It is worse in Omaha, when we can pretty much awlays tell when someone has the aces, & we are correct to call & see a flop. We flop a monster draw, with half the pack on our side so get it in & get there.

I got busted in a Horse Tourney last year with the 2nd nuts in Razz, the guy had the stone cold nuts, & said exactly this, as I stood up & picked up my stuff, a couple of spots short of the Final & obiously a shade disappointed.

A youngish player joined my starting table at DTD who continually berated other players play just because they won a hand against him. He was playing an aggressive game and was raising 3 out of every 4 hands. Now I don't mind that play but if you continually raise the other players are going to start playing back at you at some point. This eventually did happen when his aces got cracked by 6 4o. This did make me smile. He was certainly a talented player but his emotions were too highly charged.

I'm reading so many books now that I can buy them in the affordable and convenient Kindle format. I have several at my disposal at any one time.

BTW- It irks me so much that I can't persuade anyone to read any of the Holocaust stories that I recommend.

Maybe I ought to get a Kindle thing. I'm reading 3 or 4 books concurrently at present. Can't get enough books, or enough time to read them all.

I have a weird fantasy that I want to re-read every book I possess. They read differently after the passage of time.

I'm currently re-visiting the Crick & Watson DNA story, which is outstanding, & wholly beyond comprehension as to how clever it all is, DNA, RNA, proteins, nucei, cells. How the hell did that all get started?

In 2 weeks time, it will be 60 years since the DNA Helix was first identified/discovered, from which stemmed the Human Genome Project & so much else. Now we know that ageing is simply the process of cell mutation. And that cell-mutation can be genetically enginneered & reversed. The implications are mind-blowing. More importantly, it is certain that cancer CAN be beaten by biotech engineering.

Holocaust books? I read most of them that I could find when I was in my early reading phase, that would be just over 50 years ago now. They were too horrible, & even though I am re-visiting my entire library, I cannot bring myself to read those ones again. It was all too horrible for me, & gave me nightmares, & makes me hate people. And I feel so uncomfortable with hate.

PS - What a dreadfully mis-used word hate is, these days. Everyone hates things, football players, poker opponents, software, bla bla. What a ridiculous use of the word. The only word more bastardised is "friend", as in "Facebook Friend". Everyone claims to be "friends" with everyone. What utter bollox. Acquaintance (at best) is the word they mean.    

Tony just a suggestion regarding the kindle. I have an HTC tablet and downloaded a kindle app on to it and can download my books from the Amazon kindle store. Pretty sure they would have an app for your Ipad.

Kindle app definitely exists - depends on how much you want the e-ink screen that kindles have over tablet screens.

I use a kindle app on my phone. I set it for white text on a black background and find it even more comfortable than a real book to read.

Plus, that way I always have my books with me.

Beauty of having a dedicated kindle device is that the screen is much 'better' for reading books on than a computer/tablet/phone screen, and the other massive benefit is the battery life.  Will last weeks between charges, and you don't have to worry about killing your phone battery whilst using the kindle.

For a little over £100, I couldn't recommend this enough.  We got my mum one for xmas, and she loves it and reads a lot more because of it.

3am Sunday morning

I am driving down a country lane between Botchestown and Newtown Unthank in your neck of the woods, having finished updating at DTD and staying with a friend

Lights on full beam, I round a corner and there in front of me trotting up the road, half shrouded in mist, are 10-12 black and white horses and ponies. I am not quite sure if they are best described as "Gypsy's ponies" (no offence meant)..but long flowing hair on manes and on the lower parts of their legs much like the horses I have you describe traded at fairs etc tc

Beautiful creatures. I had to follow them down the road for about two miles at about 50 yeards distance, they occasionally speeded up, then slowed to a walk, and eventually pulled off the side of the road to graze at which point I left them

We're only surmising of course, but these wouldn't be wild horses would they? More likely to have escaped a field/enclosure?

If I were to come across this again, I report such an occurrence, and if so to who?

Not really - although it's my dad that has it, I'm on the basic & gave my keyboard one to my niece. Touchscreen just not as intuitive to use as the basic, and too easy to lose your place if you don't switch it off when not reading it.
