hi Tom
I've just been looking at the latest version of the line up for Glastonbury and the New Gypsy, Roma and Travellers Alliance have a spot in the Speakers Forum.
Are they a good representative body?

I should probably also add a grovelling apology for having mistaken another diary for this one and posting the question there first.
Not that either diary is any better than the other, but since the full Sunday name for the event in question is the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts it's probably not a suitable topic for the other thread even if the question didn't have some specific relevance to your good self.

Lol.

I've answered on the other thread Dave. I like to try and broaden his horizons.

LINK!!  Don't make us actually have to read through his thread.  Too much concrete and too many old trains in the way...

Tom doesn't know the group and wondered exactly who they represent. He also wondered what a New Gypsy was.

I've had a bit of a google and can't find a group with the name given. Curious eh?

Does the 'New' not refer to the Alliance, rather than to the Gypsy?  Which could be why it's not found on Google, as it's very 'new'.

Sounds plausible to me, I think Tom may have had his tongue in his cheek, as in a sense, did I.

Tom's point about representing a lot of potentially disparate groups was fair though.

Oh, I didn't actually read the 'other' thread.

Just had a look at the Glastonbury line up, and there are so many acts its mind boggling! Shocked

How do you possibly work out any kind of schedule for that lot. People must spend most of their time just trying to locate the act the want to see.
I don't think I realised just how huge this event must be physically. Looks a bit scary now I.M.O.

As I wont be attending this year, (or possibly ever) would you please take a mega phone with you David and heckle The New Gypsy, Roma and Traveller alliance on my behalf

Try the Bearded Theory festival next year.  Much smaller and more manageable, and also very friendly. Location is convenient as well.

Assuming you like the music of any of the bands Cheesy

There are many smaller festivals to try and Bearded Theory is probably a good start point (if you like fiddle music)
The scale of Glastonbury defies explanation, but think of it as a weekend out in Nottingham, you choose the activities you want to get involved in or the entertainment you want to see. Sometimes the logistics of getting from one venue to another is a bit tricky and the plans have to be changed on the hoof, but then you stumble across a moment so good that it just makes your festival.

Why do you want me to heckle the NGR&T Alliance?

Only joking about the Alliance! I'm sure they'll know what there on about, I just would have liked to know who they were.

In reply to both you and kin, I think I will probably need to cut my teeth on a smaller festival, as I'm a teensy weensy bit of a control freak and I do like to be able to roughly plan my day out  Smiley

What sort of music do you like?  List some bands or musicians you like to listen to.

Festivals - the Wickerman in southwest Scotland is one of the top 'smaller' festivals - a lot of my friends go, kids and all & I've not heard anyone complain about it. All ends with a giant wickerman being burnt, don't worry they don't put English folks in it anymore.

Heard it's a great festival - and looking at the line-up it's very similar to this year's Beautiful Days line-up.  There are so many I want to go to this summer, but can't go to them all.  Really want to go to Solfest in Cumbria, but it's the weekend after Beautiful Days and not sure I can justify/survive two festivals in a week Cheesy

Redsgirl, you definitely have to experience a good, friendly festival.

some of the oxfam stewards have done seven or eight across a summer. they move from one to the next with maybe a night at home to do laundry

the full time team do more

I'm already committed to three with thoughts of adding Tramlines in Sheffield and maybe one more this year

It would be easier to say what I dont like!
I would probably enjoy anything except thrash metal, jazz or trance type dance music.

How long have you been going to the Glastonbury Festival David?

This will be my 6th year at Glastonbury Ralph. Didn't discover the joy of festivals till I was 50 and my first trip to Worthy Farm was 2 years later.
It's a very different experience these days compared to 20/30 years ago.

We could get a crowd of us together at a festival next year if people are interested?
