I wonder why Italy is 20 places above us in the life expectancy stakes?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy
Olive Oil & Sunshine?
You may be on to something.
This is an interesting article, especially the comments.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-21690003
Iceland is high up, I put that down to clean air!
I think how they care for their poor & their pensioners could figure in as well.
I wonder what their health service, (especially cancer detection rates) are like?
I couldn't believe we were 27th in that table.
Average life expectancy isn't just about people living for longer - it's also about people not dying as young (when we're talking about average life expectancy at birth - which is normally the case).
Had a quick look and Italy's infant mortality is lower than the UK's (for example).
I haven't got the numbers to see how much of an effect that has, but any quantity of zero (or close to zero) figures can have quite a big effect when working out averages.
That's a good point Jon.
I lurrve em to bits, but stats get skewed so easily don't they?

I'm actually quite fond of the odd rom com.
I can sit with my head tilted to one side, hands clasped beneath my chin and my thighs squeezed tightly together with the best of them, but I can't for the life of me see the attraction of Dirty Dancing.
Are there any actually any blokes who like that film? (
PS- It's OK if you admit it, you're among friends.

Aye, but high infant mortality rates are not any better sign of wellbeing. We're currently in a fight with Portugal for the worst in Western Europe....
