Did you catch the "Eichmann Show" last night BBC2 9pm?
A dramatisation, including actual footage, of the Eichmann trial in 1960 including very harrowing holocaust images.
A very impressive programme indeed, powerful stuff
I caught up with this over the weekend and I have to say the programme itself was appalling.
The archive footage of the actual trial was, as you say, harrowing. Today we're fully aware of the horrors of the death camps but to think that this was the first that most people heard of what happened there, and saw the photos and film, the effect on people must have been tremendous.
But the drama side was dreadful - a clunky, ham-fisted script that jarred all the way through. Martin Freeman with his fresh-off-the-shelf US accent. It would have been far, far better to just commission a 90 minute documentary about the trial.
In complete contrast to this was the programme on BBC Four last night - the first half of the super-epic (nine hour) Holocaust documentary Shoah. A succession of eyewitness accounts of the Holocaust, it's a good job I was also recording it as it's not something I think I could go through in one sitting.
I really appreciate this post Andrew.

I'm fascinatedby the comet landing. After 25 years of planning and10 years of travelling at a speed of 40000mph, landing craft Philae managed to touch down on a target just 2.5 miles wide and 4 billion miles away.
Apparently, after the first landing it bounced back up. (I was going to say bounced back into the air but I don't think there is any air, come to think of it, there probably isn't any up either)
The bounce lasted for over two hours, because the gravitational pull of the comet is so weak. What I want to know is, with do little gravity, what holds the mother ship Rosetta in orbit?

What caused the dustbin lorry crash?
What happened to the tilted ship?
I need closure.

When I was in my early teens i visited here-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bergen-Belsen_concentration_camp
I don't think I fully understood what had gone on there at the time.
More recently, I've been here-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oradour-sur-Glane
I most certainly understood this time, the full horror of what had gone on here.

I may have a bash at the £100+10 mini next week in the sky thingy at DTD.
I'm thinking about playing next Friday in the 2pm start.
Might you be up for it?
