When I was young I thought that cats were female and dogs were male of the same species. Not entirely sure when I realised that was not the case.

While having had some pet cats that I've loved, I'd say it would probably be better for the country if domesticated cats had never been introduced. They take a heavy toll on wildlife & now our native cat (the wildcat) isn't just in danger from interbreeding, but from cat AIDS as well.

I think I agree with Fiona, you are a nutter, but the piece looks wonderful and with luck should outlast us all.

I agree with Fiona - the leading up is going to be a nightmare.

The above was 3 hours of work - it's like doing a jigssaw, if the pieces aren't allowed to exactly match & need a spacer between them. At one point I'd the top corner together, but was holding it all together with both hands, if i let go to bang a few horseshoe nails in it would move, I'm glad I was at a class and not working alone at home - I think I'd have flung it all out the window if someone hadn't helped me and nailed it in.

Funny you should ask. We got this update from Elsie's new owners yesterday.

Hi both,

Hope you are well!

Just a quick email to let you know how Elsie is doing. She has settled in brilliantly with only a few whimpers on the first and second night with us. She loves playing football and when she hears the word “Walk” she goes crazy! She is a beautiful dog with the most lovely nature and is addicted to chewing socks, she will even put her head inside the washing machine to hunt them down!

We are in love with her and feel that she has completed our family.

Thanks to you both…and Poppy of course!

Love from Andrew, Lauren, Amelia, Charlie & Elsie x

Yes, the flat sides mean they make minimal dent in the lead, so they're a must have.

When leading up you nail straight on the lead only where there will be a soldered joint, everywhere else you use a lead offcut as a spacer.

I don't get it Dave, It was a genuine question. It might not be interesting to you but it is to me.

I've never seen anyone use those sort of nails except a farrier.

I wondered why Rod would use them rather than a common nail for his stained glass.

I know I could have Googled it, but I was going to wait for Rod to answer because it's nice to interact and it paves the way for more dialogue.

I just did a search and found this, it confirms that people who do stained glass actually do use horseshoe nails, but it doesn't tell us why.

Hopefully Rod will do that.
