Amazing to think that's just shy of 11 years ago.

How things change.

We have a fluorescent strip light with a lazy starter in our kitchen shed. When you flip the switch you have to wait between one and two seconds for the light to come on and it seems like ages. It's so frustrating, I actually find myself tapping my fingers and sighing.

When I was young and we wanted light we has to light a Tilley lamp, which meant taking the lamp down from it's hook, checking the level of the paraffin, finding the funnel and topping up from the can outside if necessary, then you had to pump the Tilley lamp to pressurise the reservoir and pre-heat the burner with special methylated-spirit soaked tongs.

The whole process took about 15 minutes, and you had to time the lighting properly, light it too early and it was burning away valuable fuel when there was still plenty of daylight, light it too late and it was dark before you had finished and you couldn't see what you were doing.

All this never bothered me one iota, but waiting 1.5 seconds for the fluorescent light to come on does my nut in.

That was the bit that stops Tom from the attempt.

Have you guys been watching Kate Humble's series about "Living With Nomads" Tom.

The last one with the Mongolian nomads is a really good hour's telly.

I have it recorded Ralph.

Meanwhile, may I suggest 'Wonders of life' series with prof Brian Cox. Some people like to start by watching episode 4, followed by episode 3, but I recommend starting with episode 1 and then progressing sequentially.

FFS, give it a rest. It's real-life, not a novel.

PS - I think I dislike Brian Cox so because he looks so young. He's 51. Must be the soap he uses.

Exactly, & by a very long way.

I can't bear to watch him. I think, subconsciously, that's why, when advised by some biffer to watch Wonders of Life, I skipped straight to Ep 3. Gets it over with sooner, see.
