Boo,

You can stick photos up of cars of that era all day long for me, love 'em.

Where did you find them?

Apart from all the obvious things about scrap yards, they are also invariably linked to crime, gangsters & naughty people. The Richardsons had several scrap yards, Mad Frankie Fraser used to look after them. They never had any complaints.

I had a picture pop up on my timeline on Facebook and it got me reminiscing.

Spent many many hours in car breakers yards hunting for alternators , starter motors etc

Cars were easier to work on back then.

The whole British Leyland  / BMC ? Range was interchangeable part wise ie minis and Austin’s Riley’s for example
We would drop the front subframe on minis and replace it with another ,randomly swap engines from 850 Cc minis with bigger engines
We welded the track rod ends up on one and cut n shut it to the front end of a go cart
Driven from my friends house across the old A15 at werrington down a farm track and onto the being built current A15 werrington bypass
It was v v fast just an engine and gearbox in a very lightweight frame
We would source our experiments from club car parks using a screwdriver to gain access
Aahhh the good old days before car alarms and immobilisers

Transverse engine and box. What an invention. I once put an Austin 1100 lump into an 850 mini. It had so much torque it was ridiculous but it topped out at 45mph and did 25mpg.

I could beat an Escort Mexico away from the lights (For the first 20 yards)

What a fantastic photo Ralph. That's definitely going into my album.

Years from now, when we're both long gone, one of the grand kids will find it and say "Who the fek is that?"

Did anyone watch the Chauvin trial yesterday? I watched it on catch up and was thrilled to see the incredible Dr Martin Tobin, pulmonary/respiratory specialist give testimony.

Dr Tobin is an Irishman and if it wasn't for the fact that it took about half an hour to read out his qualifications you could easily have dismissed him as a barmy old duffer. He waved his hands around as he lectured the jury in an excited Irish brogue and he loosened his tie to expose his neck while he demonstrated. He asked everyone else to feel their own necks too.

"When they asked me what my fee would be I said I usually $500 an hour, but I would do this for nothing" He told them.

It was like watching the Oscar- nomination scene from a movie. He was utterly fantastic.

The premier health care organisation in America is the Mayo Clinic. Once every 10 years they give one award to one medical expert.

Dr Tobin has one.
