Ahh, Call My Bluff, I remember the original series with Fwank Muir and Patrick Campbell. Was there ever a more genteel and wholesome show?

We were such an undemanding audience back then, we just watched whatever they put on.

It's amazing to think that if you were watching a serial, like Family at War or Roots, you had to stay in to watch it, and if someone rang or knocked at the door then that was it, you missed it.

Ah,those were the days.

I'm assuming you were smoker Boo? I was shocking.

I started secretly smoking when I was 14 or 15. I smoked in secret because although my dad wouldn't have forbidden it, and despite the fact that he was a smoker himself, he would have been disappointed in me, and I hated to disapoint my dad.

It didn't take me long to get properly hooked. I kept my cigarettes in an old Marvel powdered milk tin that I hid in the woods near our caravans and I used to go for a walk there about 20 times a day so that I could have a fag. People must have thought I was the most nature loving boy in the world.

Although Marvel tins sealed up pretty well, my cigarettes and matches always used to get damp. I couldn't understand it, how did the moisture get in? I realise now that the moisture was already in, trapped in the cold air when I closed the lid. Often, my fags would have a brown stain running down one side, they would bend like rubber and were almost impossible to light. Not the greatest prop when you're trying to chat a bird up.

Yes ,i started about age 14 up until about 7 years ago.

By the time I was in my 30s I had progressed from 20 Number 6 per day to 40, and sometimes 60 Benson & Hedges.

You could smoke anywhere back then, in pubs and restaurants, shops, cinemas... When we were courting, I remember going to see Mrs Red, who was in hospital with a throat infection,  and having a fag with the doctor.

I ALWAYS had a cigarette in my hand.

Even though cigarettes were relatively cheap back then, buying two and sometimes three packs a day became unsustainable, so I began rolling my own.

It wasn't easy.
I'm not the most dexterous person and my hands are like shovels. My early attempts ended with loads of tobacco on the floor, on my trousers, in my tea, in my eye, in fact everywhere except inside the little twist of paper where it was supposed to be.

However, we smokers are a determined bunch and I persevered. Eventually I could roll factory-grade cigarettes while swimming or riding a horse, or one handed while driving a lorry and eating a bacon sandwich.
