lets get back to the ferret story you lot, im waiting till something crazy happens, like it bumps into an escapee mink down a huge warren on a moonlit night, or bites Reds finger off when he tries to take it off a kill lol. Also, hazard a guess what a single skinned and gutted rabbit is on sale for in borough market red. Its a fraction more than the 50p the game dealer gives me......

It's an old mail van. Post in sacks up the ladder, sorted on the far side of the trailer (no windows) and unloaded at destination in the morning.

Nah, mail went by train.

and road. Still goes by rail.

It used to be the case that Mail was transported by, & sorted on, dedicated Royal Mail Trains (see "Great Train Robbery", a subject upon which I could fascinate you all for hours on end), but, in the main, that's no longer the case. These trains were called "TPO"'s (Travelling Post Offices) & could collect mail without stopping via a clever little "net" device slung from the side of the coach.

The Unions bought about their demise, however, & all that remains is a twice daily Mail Train from London to Scotland. Most Mail is Posted in the afternoon, & delivered the next morning, & with the fascists at Network Rail not allowing overnight Rail services these days, the TPO is unlikely to re-appear.

There was also a dedicated Royal Mail Railway, under the streets of London, with 8 stations between Paddington & Whitechapel, each station being beneath a Sorting Office. It closed a few years back. Allegedly, it's cheaper to deliver by Road.

East Midlands Airport is a Royal Mail "hub", & a lot of flights come in & out of EMA every night carrying Mail. Park on the hard shoulder of the M1 (feigning overheating engine or somesuch) & you get a spectacular view of incoming flights, as they pass over the M1 at J24 at about 200 feet altitude. A BMI flight once failed to get across the M1, in fact, due, essentially, to Pilot error.

Here's a few random piuctures of TPO rolling-Stock. You can see where Tghty gets the idea that this may have been a Mail Lorry, by similarity to the rail-based stock.

This is an American Model, but it shows the "net device" by which Mail could be collected by the train in transit.

That's true.

Most boats however don't leak. I would assume that this thing (whatever it is) is full of holes so no displacement would take place.

I spotted this little beauty sitting outside someones office.

It's a Porsche, but does anyone know the model or the approximate year of manufacture?

It could very well be a replica as well.

Just had a look at some Speedsters for sale, and comparing the designs it looks like a late 60s/early 70s design.

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/classic_cars.php?make=35&keyword=speedster

It wasn't a replica Kin. you can tell when you see it in the flesh.

I've seen some 80s replicas that are absolutely indistinguishable from the originals.

Also, I think replica's have to have modern number plates.

No they don't.

Oh well I wouldn't argue because I don't know for sure.

I knew that you could buy an old registration number, but I didn't think you were allowed to use the old-style plates.

Here's a 'rebuilt' car that was actually put together in the 80s:  http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C47630  probably on the chassis of a much older car.

These 'rebuilt' cars are around £20,000 to buy, whereas the original ones can cost well over 6-figures.

Beautiful cars definitely.

Lovely car except for the car stereo which absolutely ruins the look of the dash IMO.

They're never less than a quid are they Alex?

My Granny wouldn't touch a rabbit unless it came to her with the head left on. You could skin and gut it, but remove the head and you had to cook it yourself. "How do I know it hasn't got myxy?" She would say. Or "That could be someones cat for all I know"

OK. I must finish the ferret story. I don't want to see Alex Martin pine. (Did you see what I did there?)
