How many press ups can you do (to fail)?



Not sure mate as I don't do them any more.

I used to be able to do 150 or so and about 50 single arm ones.

I'd guess if I had to do them today I'd be able to do about 40 normal and zero single arm.

What is considered to be a useful dose of cod liver oil?


I used to take 1000mg of cod liver oil in capsules every day.

I take the Sainsbury's Clacium and cod liver (2 in 1) capsules every day...can't say I have noticed a difference but doesn't seem to hurt either.

p.s. Matt I stopped taking creatine for a few weeks and did notice the difference...am convinced there is something to it.

Contradiction in terms?

I know people who believe in horoscopes or tarot-card readings.  Doesn't make them right.

Even 'self-judgement' is very unreliable, as the human mind looks for patterns and causation when there isn't necessarily any (it's easy to mistake causation and correlation).  If you're spending money on something on a regular basis, you don't (consciously or sub-consciously) want to admit that it's not doing anything and so you're going to be subjective with the evidence and what you report.  So friends who recommend something as 'working' may have already gone through this subjective process before reporting back on how good the shit is.

Also, if boldie says it works then it proberly doesn't.

I can't see it myself. I may be wrong though.

The first sentence explains that you are convinced it is working, (thereby passing judgement) the next one says you will reserve judgement.

I'm at a loose end atm btw.

Yeah you'll piss it.

Bodyweight excercises are all about practice and repetition. You don't need to be particularly strong overall just strong at what you're doing.

It's the same with chin ups. 6 weeks ago I couldn't do any so had to use the assisted machine. Now I can do 8 or 9.

Your body adapts to what you ask it to do on a regular basis.

Start by doing 10 push ups per night for 1 week. Tonight would be a great night to start. I know it's tempting to do more but just work the muscles and joints slowly and don't risk injury.

Add 5 to your nightly goal every week. Next week starting Monday do 15 every night. Again don't try to do more, you only risk injury.

You've got about 24 weeks to Christmas so you'll be well over 100 doing it this way.

Fair point. Right arm is still pretty strong.
