Me and Pads nearly had a crossbook on yearly profits.

After I had an amazing January I was kicking myself at how much Pleno would be owing me. By this month he'd have broke me already!

We bought FIFA last week. I've played maybe 2 times in the last 6 years but my housemates play a lot. Had some sick games today I got 11.5-1 against Spain and blinked it in the first match. Then lost it all n evens bet Belgium vs Czech Republic.

Ended up n a huge 5 match downswing vs ransoms online that my housemates bet on against me. We did it all in on the last match for me to get evens. At half time we decided to,double the odds when it was 1-1 and managed to bink for a pretty big win haha. Petty sick to be degenerate paying computer games and betting 500 on a match onma playstation but I'm not really too sick like that so not too worried.

Had a call with a financial investor today about some of the cash I've won recently. Few different options that interest me nd will be doing a bunch if research over the next 4-6'weeks (see how much is left after scoop Cheesy)

Gonna grind sopranos season 5 now. Vamoooooo

If you want to take an investment punt with some of your spare cash try P2P Lending.  The model is fairly stable and financial institutions are starting to pump in some real cash.  The key is to spread your investment over many loans to mitigate damage against defaults.  The most attractive returns for a lender, and one I would put any spare money I have into, come from https://www.bondora.ee/en/home.  18% of their lenders are based in the UK and someone I know says he gets his repayments like clockwork and is averaging 18% on the money lent.  The returns from the UK P2P Lending sites are much lower.

I'd be a bit wary of investing on that site.

They are growing rapidly, so the default rates could be understated (eg a loan in force 45 days is going to show zero over 60 day default rates).

They have FT.com on their front page, where there must be close to zero chance that the FT is endorsing them.  I'd prefer to see the name of the regulator on the front page.  It is the sort of thing you see on watchdog, well the site did have an FT endorsement on the font page...  It might be an interesting phone call to the FT to ask about their "endorsement" if somebody had the time.

A lot of loans perform well when times are good, if they are experiencing 5% default rates in good times with a loan portfolio where the average loan duration must only be a few months, the default rate is going to be horrific in bad times with a mature loan book.

The number of loans/investors is increasing exponentially, to me that suggests lower future interest rates and lower quality of average investment.  Presumably a lot of the functions at bondora are going to be under strain.  They can chase the handful of current defaults, can they cope with 10x that amount, or a hundred?

Also using default figures from Estonia may not be representative of their current lending. see article below where it shows demand is highest from Spain.  Though Spain is currently a minor part of the loan book, things could be changing with all that new money they are attracting.

http://www.arcticstartup.com/2014/04/03/bondora?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ArcticStartup+(ArcticStartup)

Lending to Spanish borrowers hasn't been the safest investment over the years.

I didn't like this much either,

For example a 36 month loan at 25% interest rate, that is 3 months overdue after 12 scheduled payments has a XIRR of 12.9%. The three missed principal payments are written off, however the principal and interest payments scheduled over the next 24 payments are not part of the calculation.

So when calculating returns on loans that have gone bad, we include past defaults, but not any future ones.

All may be good, obviously.

Bondora.co.uk is a more interesting investment.  Be careful with your google searches at work.

All good points.

Most of this industry is unregulated, the FCA only started regulating P2P sites over here from April 1.  I think Bondoro put the FT logo on there to reflect an article published - I doubt the FT endorses them.

The question of how these loans will perform in bad times is a good one and hard to predict.  Most of these loans are for loan consolidation to clear credit cards and payday loans which incur ridiculous interest rates.

One advantage the UK sites, Zopa and Ratesetter, have is that they have introduced provision funds which guarantee the loan.  Ratesetter have never had a lender lose money because of this.  Funding Circle in the UK is also interesting; they deal in business loans and so far have a default rate of 1.5%.  The UK Government has pumped a lot of money through them to be loaned to SME's.

In the USA, the darling of the P2P Lending sites is Lending Club - Google recently invested $130 million in them.  They have now funded > $4 billion and the market is expecting them to IPO later in the year.

Interest space this P2P - institutions are now starting to invest heavily because of the poor yields realised from traditional markets.

SNE off the cards now?

Fwiw I think forgetting about that can't be a bad thing. Such a huge commitment and you really need to enjoy life while you're a wee young lad.

Shame about cancelling those live events, could've been some good memories made there but there's always another year.

How about normal, non poker holidays? Anything planned?

Well I'm planning on playing a tone online and time I was going to lose from going to remo, Monaco and Vegas I now won't lose anymore. The plan is basically to play a lot. Keep trying to improve then by November see how far behind I am. Ill probably be able to put in some huge grind and make it. Could be a fun sweat.

Yeh instead of remo ill go away for with Ingrid and the dogs. We've never really been able to have a holiday as a 5 because travelling with 3 dogs, one paralyzed is very difficult but were going to try and make it work. Whilst things have been rosy for me Ingrid has been working extremely hard and keeping things together. She deserves a holiday way more than I do so I'm happy that I can dedicate some time. I think we will try to drive to Slovenia or somewhere similar probably 2 weeks before SCOOP which will be the perfect break and time off for me to be mentally prepared and batteries recharged.

My parents took us on a lovely holiday in Slovenia by a gorgeous lake - would imagine that'd make a perfect break esp with dogs. Can get more info if you want.
