Fair play to you Alex, pretty sure I would have crapped myself in your spot and done one, assuming the worst.
Sounds like a unique experience that you only get with travelling to the backwaters of these countries.
Yeh, I'm probably on the rash side though (with regards the countries I go to, travelling alone etc), maybe it'll get me into trouble one day.
It's way more interesting to me to travel to a country like Colombia, that nobody ever goes to, and that has so much unspoilt beauty and incredibly friendly people who love to welcome foreigners into their country, than to travel where everybody travels where the people aren't as friendly towards white people because there's so many of them (I'm thinking of those who do the standard gap yah route of australia, NZ, SEAsia), I enjoyed South East Asia the least out of South America, Central America and Africa. It's so well travelled that you just felt (I felt, I know plenty love SEA) like another ant on the trail, following everyone else, or bumping into those doing the circuit the opposite way round. I wish I'd got off the beaten track a bit more when I was there because that's where are the best experiences come from.
So in a way I'm loving being the only traveller here (honestly, all the people I've met have been locals, which is great, I love talking to locals WAY more than other travellers), but I'm a bit lonely too and wish in a way that there was someone else here to share it all with. I think that's why I'm spending a lot of time on blonde/facebook still and playing lots of poker, because spending 24hours a day alone gets a bit much so being in touch with people back home is nice.
Going back to Medellin tomorrow, this town is lovely, but it's defo a one/two day stopover rather than a place to stay. Not sure where I'm gonna go from Medellin. I've never been and always wanted to go to Chile. Also there's an incred bit of Argentina right by Antartica that we missed when I was here in 08 and really wanted to go to. They're both very far away though!
